Week 10 Reminders
and Celebrations Term 2 2021
St Emilie's Catholic Primary School

From the Principal
Hi everyone and we hope you have had a great week!
PROFESSIONAL LEARNING DAYS
Each year staff have a number of days dedicated to Professional Learning. One of the Pupil Free Days this term has been dedicated to looking at one of the Pope's encyclicals called 'Laudato Si'. The key idea of the encyclical is promoting 'integral ecology' i.e people & planet are one family and it links to the the Catholic Church's social teaching of working together for justice and dignity; walking together in hope and building a better future for all, together. Teachers will then integrate this learning back into classrooms through RE lessons and our integrated, whole school Social Justice units next term.
Another day looks at Staff Wellbeing and the final day looks at Student Wellbeing. In addition to having a positive impact on colleagues and students, staff wellbeing improves performance and job satisfaction, which leads to reduced staff turnover. It also help to reduce absences , increases productivity and promotes staff engagement!
As well as increasing a child's opportunity and choices in life, promoting good mental health and wellbeing in children is a core role in education as it helps them develop important protective factors and provides them with the skills and confidence to seek help when needed.
DISCO PHOTOS
The disco was such a fun-filled night for all our children. Below are some of the fabulous photos taken by Bianca Woolhouse, one of our talented parents here at school. Bianca is a professional photographer who takes a variety of absolutely gorgeous family photos as part of her own business. She generously donated her time to take some terrific snaps of our recent disco and we hope you enjoy them!
Below are some links that you also may like to check out if you are interested in capturing a family photo of your own!

Dean Newman, another one of our wonderfully generous parents (a physio and photographer on the side) also came along to take some terrific photos for us! Extra photos from Dean will appear on the website over the weekend.
Below is a couple seconds of pure joy as Archer from Kindy (who is currently sporting a recently broken arm) explained how he had to go from home by ambulance to the hospital ... his teacher, Mr Munro and I were treated to his impersonation of the ambulance. I think you will agree that he absolutely NAILED IT! :) The photo below this one is Archer and a little friend enjoying the morning sunshine as he learns to navigate his way back into the play area cARMLY ... as you can see he is putting his non broken arm to very good use! :)
All the best for a JOY-FILLED family weekend - it sounds like Saturday is the day to get out and about as the rain is back on its way early next week!
Regards
Tania Thuijs

We need 13 families ... can you help us please? :)
The St Emilie's Parish are running their major fundraiser for the year and they have asked us for our help to sell 13 books of tickets.
Each book has 20 tickets and each ticket is $5.00.
Thank you to the families who have already collected a book to sell. We would REALLY appreciate it if we could find 13 wonderful families who would be prepared to take a book and sell these tickets as soon as possible to neighbours, friends and workmates to support our parish.
Please contact the Office if you can help and we take a note of your details and send the book home.
THANK YOU!

Cash for Cans Scheme here at St Emilie's
As you will be aware this Government initiative encourages the community to recycle cans, bottles etc and receive a 10 cent refund.
If you are already doing this with your family - great! If however your family would like to support our school and direct some of your bottles and cans etc here, we would be very grateful!
Please see the poster below for more details.

Kindy Enrolments for 2022 - do you have a child starting Kindy next year?
If you have a child starting next year please ensure that you have completed an enrolment form. We still have some spaces so please spread the word!
Kindy enrolments are an exciting time for our school - we love to meet new families and touch base with our existing families!

Social Worker PARENT REFERRAL and CONSENT FORM
School social workers focus on the student in the school environment and work collaboratively with principals and teachers to minimise the impacts of personal, family and school difficulties and, where possible, remove any barriers to learning.
With students as their focus, school social workers provide consultancy, advice and support to principals, teachers and other school staff and to families so that they can best meet the needs of individual and groups of children and young people. There is a strong emphasis on individual student and family counselling and support. This is an amazing opportunity for kids, staff and families and one we have wanted in our school for some time.
Please find below the Parent Referral and Consent Form to access our School Social Worker.
You are asked to read the procedure carefully and also note that Kylie only works two days a week. While she will do her very best to accomodate all family referrals, patience may be required as she prioritises her case load and allows time for observation visits, classroom support and playground involvement.
