News & Notes from Josiah Haynes Elementary School
December 19, 2019
The blanket of snow on the ground is the perfect setting for us to enter into the holiday season and a well-earned winter break. I hope that whether you are traveling far or staying near, that December break is a time of celebration, rejuvenation and rest for your family.
The Haynes staff and I wish you the best for a wonderful vacation and a joyous start to the new year. I look forward to seeing you in 2020!
SERF Student Grants Announced
More than thirty Haynes students applied for the first-ever SERF Student Grants. SERF selected a proposal from Katelyn Arees, who proposed using the grant money to purchase app-enabled robots. The Sphero Mini Education kit, which includes 16 clear robotic balls with gyroscopes, accelerometers, and LED lights, as well as bumpers, mini traffic cones, bowling pins, construction sets, and activity cards, will help spark creativity through discovery, play, and to add to students’ foundation for computer science skills. The kits, accessible to all classes at Haynes, will give students practice controlling the robots with their own commands. Special thanks to Haynes Librarian Dorothy Kramer for serving as Katelyn's sponsor, and to all the Haynes educators who sponsored our students' applications!
