Pershing Elementary- -September 4, 2015

What are we doing in 5th grade?

Reading- We have begun our reading stations. Students have 3 stations to complete each day. Students continued with their literature circle book and completed the quiz maker job. Students met on Friday to discuss their weekly reading.

Reading stations include: Teacher Table, Vocabulary, Words Their Way Word Study, Lexia, Literature Circle Prep., and Writing on a Blog.

Writing- Students have heard several texts from author, Patricia Pollaco. After each texts the students collaborate to find the author's meaning. Students have also been introduced to personal narratives and began a draft of their own.

Math- We are working on comparing decimals and ordering whole numbers and decimals. Students are also working on their ALEKS pie charts. Chapter 1 test will be on Thursday, September 10th.

Science- Students have been exploring how human needs and activities have affected bodies of water. They have created an environmental poster with a partner to show the audience how we can keep our bodies of water clean.

*If you have any magazines that you would like to donate to the classroom, please send them to school with your child. We use magazines to cut out of during vocabulary station.

*NO SCHOOL on September 7th (Labor Day)

*Wear or bring tennis shoes on Mondays and Wednesdays for P.E.

*Bring in box tops for education
