BAND AND GUARD WORK DAY TOMORROW! Monday, Jan. 3, 1-8pm (details below)

a note from your director

WELCOME BACK!!! We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas Holiday and a very Happy New Year! We are excited to kick off this semester and welcome all of the items that we undertake this spring!

We are officially kicking off our JHS Winter Guards competitive season! They have already been rehearsing and working hard to prepare to have another great year! Can’t wait to see this incredible group of students take the floor this spring!

Solo & Ensemble will be here before you know it! This week we must verify each student's solo title! Students will receive a copy of their entry form to verify the title, grade and movement of their solo. The pianist accompaniment schedule will be passed out this week, and those rehearsals will start soon. Please make sure you have paid your accompanist fee of $30. You may bring payment into Mrs. Mendez, or you may pay online using the fair share portal at: https://hayscisd.revtrak.net/Campuses-and-Instruction-1013/Middle-Schools-and-High-Schools/johnson-high-school/jhs-music-department/jhs-band/#/v/JHS---Fair-Share-Fee-Payment-2021-2022-1082. Please indicate Student Name and Solo Accompanist Fee in the notes.

UIL Concert and Sight-reading preparations will begin this week! Each Concert Band will be working on this music as we get ready to have our official UIL Evaluation in early April! The various bands will begin before and/or after school sectionals and rehearsals soon. Please keep an eye on the calendar and speak to your student as these schedules and rehearsals will be different for each concert band and instrument.

Hawaii is getting close! We are less than three months from departure! The portal to join the trip is closed, and there will be no new additions for travelers. The only possible exception will be if a traveler drops the trip and their tickets may be purchased. This will go through the travel company, not the band. All logistics for travel will go through Perform America Texas. There will be a mandatory meeting for all travelers soon. Once we have official confirmations for policies and procedures from the airlines, local businesses and the state of Hawaii, we will schedule the meeting date and time! Be on the lookout!

Let’s have an awesome week and can’t wait to see everyone on Tuesday!!
