LIVELY MIDDLE SCHOOL

WEEK OF OCTOBER 14, 2019

FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S OFFICE

Greetings Falcon Nation,

Pride Week may be over in AISD, but Lively will always be a safe and inclusive environment for all students and their families. We will proudly display our pride flag in the hallway all year.

We missed all of our students today; however, teachers did utilize the day to plan meaningful and challenging learning experiences for all students. Teachers were teaching teachers and engaged in professional learning around how to effectively use BLENDED learning modules in class. It was beautiful to see them excited to share their knowledge with other teachers on campus. I am so proud of our teachers and their efforts with planning thoughtful lessons for our students. A special thank you to PTA and Snarf’s Sandwiches for providing lunch to our staff today.

If you see our 7th and 8th-grade volleyball girls, please tell them how proud you are of them. Our teams are zone champs and fought hard last night competing for city champs. While they did not win their games last night, they all did an outstanding job.

EVERYONE: 1 for 8th graders

Please bring back the signed consent forms for students or complete online via the parent portal. Paper forms should be returned to the Advisory teacher. The first 8th-grade Advisory class to return all of the consent forms will win breakfast tacos! On October 22nd, students who have signed the 1:1 consent form on paper or online will receive their Chromebooks for use at school and home. If you have not signed the consent, please do so ASAP so your child can have the benefit of using the computers at home and school. Students who do not have the consent forms will still be able to use the computers on campus; however, they will not be allowed to take them home. We ask that when students receive their computers that they charge them daily before coming to school. For consent forms and more information about the 1:1 initiative, go to the following website:

https://www.austinisd.org/technology/everyone.

The goal is to have 100% of our 8th graders using computers at school and home. On the site, you will find some helpful tips for empowering each student to be a safe digital citizen. Remember, you are the parent, and you set boundaries and guidelines for tech use at home. Every student has already had courses during Advisory for digital citizenship and will have more opportunities throughout the school year. You can help reinforce this at home. Here are other great resources for digital citizenship: https://www.commonsensemedia.org/

Roof Construction at Lively

Our academic building and 500 building will undergo some construction to improve and replace the roof. The construction will take place through March. I have personally met with the AISD construction and safety team to discuss the project for the school. Several measures are put in place so that staff and students are safe. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me by phone or email, Stacie.Holiday@austinisd.org or 512-414-3437

If you haven’t done so yet, please thank a teacher or other Lively staff member. “Some people dream of success, while other people get up every morning and make it happen” (Wayne Huizenga, 2019). It’s not every day we get to see true heroes go to work. Our staff is amazing! Please show them how much you care.

Reminder, students who have perfect attendance from October 2nd to October 31st will be able to attend the snow cone social on Friday November 1st. Students who are absent for religious holidays are still eligible for snow cone social. Please enjoy the long weekend; remember there is no school for students on Monday, October 14th. Rest up, and I’ll see you on Tuesday!
