LES PTA Recognized as National PTA School of Excellence
I am very excited to announce that Lisbon Elementary School was recently named a National PTA School of Excellence for the 2021-2023 school years.
National PTA’s School of Excellence Program supports and celebrates partnerships between PTAs and schools that work to improve the educational experience and school environment for every child. As a National PTA School of Excellence at Lisbon, families feel welcomed and empowered to support student success. The PTA is a key partner for continuous school improvements. The School of Excellence Program provides guidance to assist our school to engage families in school decision-making and help our school build inclusive policies related to education, health, safety or the arts.
Becoming a National PTA School of Excellence began with the joint commitment of the PTA and our administrative team to work together to welcome all families, communicate effectively, support student success, speak up for every child, share power, and collaborate with the community. Our school has successfully mastered these commitments and we applaud everyone for doing so.
The path to excellence is a journey, not a destination, and we encourage your continued participation toward our goals as this distinction places our PTA in the running to become a Phoebe Apperson Hearst Award recipient which recognizes success in integrating family-school partnerships. We are extremely proud of the work that we have done to enrich the educational experience and overall well-being of all students.
Thank you for your commitment to our school community. Thank you for helping us reach this noteworthy milestone for our school and community.

Lisbon Halloween Celebrations
Halloween Parade
On Friday, October 28, 2022, Lisbon ES will celebrate Halloween with a few adjustments. Our annual parade and classroom activities will be limited to students and staff only. Classrooms will have fall activities but unfortunately we will NOT be unable to have food. Due to logistical concerns, student costumes MUST fit over top of your child's clothing so they can get dressed inside the classroom and independently. Please think through your child's costume choice, as they will need to put it on with little to no assistance.
Please review the following reminders/updates.
- Any costumes that perpetuate violence, have any blood, gore, scary masks, or contain any type of weapons are prohibited. Props that come with costumes that are “play weapons” are not allowed in school. This includes but is not limited to toy guns, knives, swords, sickles, pitchforks, etc.
- If you prefer that your child does not take part in the parade, please send a note to your child’s teacher and contact Mrs. Anoff at debra_anoff@hcpss.org.
- Thank you for your cooperation.

HCPSS Partnerships Support Student Success
HCPSS is fortunate to have an amazing network of partners that supports our school district. The Educational Partnerships 2021-2022 Annual Report highlights many examples of these partnerships and the vital role they play in helping students achieve success.
We are extremely fortunate to have educational partnerships at Lisbon Elementary School. Business partnerships benefit our school in many ways. Whether the business partnerships provide financial assistance, summer family food and fun evenings, or help enhance the curriculum, everyone benefits from these collaborations.
In addition to the wide range of At-Large partners, our school benefits from a group of businesses and organizations directly. Please support the organizations that partner with our school.
We would like to thank the following businesses and organizations for their commitment to our school and students:
- A-OK Mentoring-Tutoring
- Howard County Library System
- Howard County Library, Glenwood Branch
- Howard County Local Children's Board
- Howard County Office of Community Sustainability
- Lisbon United Methodist Church
- Sandy Spring Bank, Lisbon Branch

HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH
Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15th to October 15th each year in the United States. This celebration honors numerous people from Spanish-speaking backgrounds who have come to the United States. We celebrate their cultures and traditions during this month. September 15th was chosen as the starting point for the celebration because it is the anniversary of the independence of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Also, Mexico celebrates its independence day on September 16th and Chile celebrates its independence day on September 18th.
Check out these websites for more information about Hispanic Heritage Month and how you can celebrate virtually and at home!
Flu Vaccination Clinic
Flu shots are coming to Lisbon Elementary on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 14th. They will be given at NO CHARGE TO YOU. Now, more than ever, it is important to protect your family through vaccinations.
If you would like your child to be vaccinated, please register BEFORE Saturday, October 8:
Fill out the consent form online at:
https://www.marylandvax.org/appointment/en/reg/1582905605
This code is for Lisbon students only. Each school has it’s own identifying code to register your students, so if you have older children, be sure to register them on the links sent from their Middle or High Schools.
Influenza, also known as the flu, is a serious illness that affects people of all ages. One of the best ways to prevent the flu is through vaccinations. We are pleased to join with the Maryland Partnership for Prevention (MPP) to offer flu vaccinations at our school.
The vaccine is quadrivalent and it does not have preservatives (thimerosal, mercury) because they use single-dose syringes.
We urge you to protect your family from the flu. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone ages 6 months and older get a flu shot. Please visit www.cdc.gov/flu/index.htm for more information about the flu vaccine.
Spiritwear Sale Ends on Sept. 30th
Student Absences
Please send all absence notes to lesabsence@hcpss.org and include the following in your email:
