WEEK OF AUGUST 26 - 30
Our First Week Was Epic!
GLA Educators... When Our Scholars Saw Us..They Saw Greatness!
Kudos to all of you for a GREAT first week! When our scholars saw us, they saw GREATNESS! They saw educators who, though tired from the extra hours preparing for day one, were loving, motivating, and most of all...committed to high expectations! As we walked the halls and visited classrooms, we saw hugs, we saw modeling, we saw positive framing, we saw joy, we saw GLOBAL GREATNESS and so much more! As we step into week two, lets commit to making this week even more impactful. There is nothing we can't accomplish, together!
This week we will welcome our Kindergarten babies, take staff website photos, kick off i-Ready testing, focus on LiveSchool usage, begin unpacking our Global Greatness initiatives, and end the week in Professional Development. Breathe! We've got this!

Global Leadership Academy strives to maintain a professional workplace environment. Staff members are expected to present a business-like image to scholars, families and the public. We model the “Image of Excellence” for our scholars. Since they are required to “dress for success,” we must do the same.
Professional Dress Reminders!
Jewelry: Please limit large earrings to Cultural Wednesdays. On other days, staff are asked to wear small post earrings and/or earrings smaller than a quarter, as this is what we ask of scholars.
Shoes: All staff are expected to wear dress shoes daily with the exception of Fitness Friday. Scholar support team members (only) are permitted to wear shoes or black sneakers with their professional dress.
Cultural Wednesday: If statement t-shirts are worn on Cultural Wednesday, they must still be dressed up with professional bottoms and shoes. If staff choose not to participate in Cultural Wednesday, the expectation is that you wear professional dress.
Teaching and Learning Corner (with Ms. Snyder)
Congratulations on a strong start to the year! Our instructional "look for" this week is: ONE VOICE, TRACKING THE SPEAKER
- Step 1: Build buy-in: “We demonstrate respect in this room by turning our eyes to the speaker and actively listening.”
- Step 2: Model: “If Jaer is speaking, I will turn my head to look at him demonstrating my respect by actively listening.”
- Step 3: Practice: Give several scholars an opportunity to speak, asking the rest of the room to track the speaker.
Watch the best practice video below for effective "Track the Speaker" roll out.
iReady Testing:
Monday, using the iReady resources, please prepare your scholars for the first benchmark. Utilizing our PBIS systems is a great incentive for taking the benchmark seriously. Remind scholars this is an opportunity to show us what they know, so we can give them specific/targeted instruction around skills. Tuesday-Friday the entire school will be iReady testing. The testing schedule and support can be found below.
Standards-Based Grading Quick Tip:
As you start instruction this week, please ensure you are using the Habits of Success Tracker. We will go over the platform and recording this data at Friday’s PD. If you have questions about use, please reach out to your content/grade lead or Ms. Snyder! You will find the link to the resource to download here.
CULTURE AND CLIMATE CORNER (with Mrs. Douglas)
This Week's Global Greatness Look Fors:
DEFINING RESPECT AND LIVESCHOOL USAGE
Defining Respect: As a school, we will begin to unpack each of our three school-wide expectations, beginning with respect. In your conversations with scholars this week, work to come up with your class definition of respect. Encourage scholars to be specific. What does respect look like and sound like at different points in their day? Create a visual (anchor chart, bulletin board, etc.) that showcases what you came up with!
LiveSchool: Let's work to increase scholar buy-in with LiveSchool. All staff should have the app on their phones and/or smartboards and use LiveSchool when narrating the positive things that scholars are doing. If we make it a big deal, scholars will follow suit! We will talk more about this at PD this week.
UNIFORM CHALLENGE: We are looking for classes with 100% uniform compliance this week! Classes with 100% compliance all week will receive a special incentive from the Climate team!
