Calling Future STARS!
We are currently enrolling new kindergartners! If you have a future Nashua Star at home who will turn five before August 1st, please call the office at 321-5160. Mark your calendars for Mach 28th from 6:00-7:30 pm! We will be having our annual Kindergarten Round-Up! Meet our Kindergarten team, some of our Encore Staff, tour the building, and take a bus ride around the neighborhood! It’s planning to be a boot scootin’ good time!
2019-20 Class Placement
Class placement is a team decision here at Nashua with many factors taken into consideration. If you feel your child has specific needs to be considered, please fill out the Parent Input Form for Student Placement and return it to the office by Tuesday, April 9th. WE DO NOT HONOR SPECFIC TEACHER REQUESTS! The forms are available in the office or electronically for easy access. Please email Mrs. Stukey at heather.stukey@nkcschools.org
5th grade parents!
Gateway’s Growlin’ Grizzly Booster Club is looking for family members of current fifth graders that might like to be a part of the booster club executive board for the 2019-2020 school year. This is a great opportunity to make an impact at Gateway. Being a part of the board gives you the opportunity to plan fun activities for the students, support the staff and raise funds for the school. Board members serve a term of one year. The board positions are as follows: President, Vice President of Fundraising, Vice President of Committees, Treasurer, and Secretary. If this is something you would be interested in or have more questions please feel free to reach out to Erin Tolin at erin.tolin@gmail.com. We would like to have all nominations by March 15th. Our current board will vote on April 1st.
Letter from the Principal
Parents of North Kansas City Schools Students:
In the past month, you may have become aware of a current trend on social media referred to as the “Momo Challenge”. The purpose of this letter is to make you aware of this challenge, provide you with information about it, and encourage you to monitor your children’s use of social media and the internet. The “Momo Challenge,” a game found on Facebook and the app, WhatsApp, features a frightening avatar/image who asks its viewers to perform various tasks and provide photos as proof. The "Momo" threatens those who do not perform the tasks.
There are conflicting reports and some sources are indicating this is a hoax. However, the situation could still cause students to talk about the topic of self-harm and possibly fear that people are in danger, which is why we are giving you information and resources. We also have had children who searched for the image and were very scared by the image alone.
Please know that you can always reach out to your child’s school counselor or school community resource specialist if you have questions or need to discuss concerns about your child.
Sincerely,
Heather Stukey
