Vision Statement

To provide a safe and supportive environment where rigorous foundational knowledge is acquired and applied.

Paying Attention

One of my biggest frustrations with education is that the professionals (us) are not considered professionals. i'm not sure what causes that. Maybe it is because everyone went to school at some point so they all feel that they have enough knowledge to make decisions. When politicians make FDA policies they consult doctors, when they review foreign policy or consider military action they consult armed forces leaders, and when they consider economic policies they talk to bankers and brokers. Yet when they discuss education issues, we are rarely consulted. Above is a link to an article discussing the ESSA Act which, if passed, would replace NCLB. No Child Left Behind was an important first step to education reform. For all of its shortcomings, it shined a light on a public education system that is woefully inequitable. ESSA is the first major attempt in quite a while to gain real political traction. Since our legislators will more than likely not be consulting us, it is our responsibility to be informed and outspoken as these policies.
