Message from the Principal

Dear Vejar Families,

We are living in a very difficult time of uncertainty. I want to begin by sharing that our Vejar staff and WVUSD family are doing well. We recognize that this is not an easy time to manage your own uncertainty, managing work and now, providing support for your student at home. Our Vejar family and school district are continuously working to provide our students with learning opportunities during the school closures. The resources were created to help bridge the learning gap and we will continue to update and provide support as we move forward. Please remember, all of us are adjusting to being away from school and we can't wait to fill our classrooms again. Prioritize making your family feel safe and secure. Then, based on your own home, determine whether it's an iPad, online learning, paper or pencil that works best for their independent time. When we return, our teachers will embrace all students regardless of where they left off with their learning. Remember, we are all in this together.

In the meantime, I will continue to provide support and resources in our weekly newsletter. If you have any questions or need any resources, please email me at wprenger@wvusd.k12.ca.us. I am happy to contact you to provide support throughout our time away.

In addition, use the resources on Learn.WVUSD.org. These are meant to assist students so they continue their thinking and practice skills they have already learned in our community. We don't expect any of our parents and families to replace the level of teaching in our classroom. I know it can be difficult and uncertain, just remember to take care of yourself and your family, give yourself grace, and we will learn and adapt together.

I will be hosting Coffee with the Principal on Wednesdays at 9am for anyone who needs to ask a question, get assistance, or would like to say hello. We will have a You Tube channel for daily morning messages that include inspiration, our flag salute, and updates. Look for a link in your email. :) In addition, our newsletter will come every Sunday. If need be, I am happy to add office hours for anyone who needs to connect with me. In the meantime, send me an email to say hello or share your photos as we work and learn from home.

I look forward to when we can be together again.

Warmly,

Miss Prenger

Show your School Spirit!

  • Monday- Make your weekly schedule! Start with a Monday message of gratitude to someone at home, in your family, or from Vejar!
  • Tuesday- If you are using technology, try a new online lesson from our resource page! Or use technology to connect with someone to share new learning or read together.
  • Wednesday- Wacky Wednesday- incorporate music, art, or enrichment in your schedule.
  • Thursday- PE Day! Get active and spark your indoor-phins!
  • Friday- Show your Vejar spirit and have some family fun!

Start with a Schedule

While being at home for an extended period is usually for a scheduled break or vacation, this is a little different. One place to start is by making sure you have a posted schedule for the members in your family. It should include times where everyone is independent and times when you can be together. We don't expect 7 or 8 hours of learning from home. This occurs in the classroom with breaks, brain based activities, and time for teachers to meet the needs of 25-35 and 40 kids during their time together. Remember, first, take care of yourself and your kids as a family unit, the rest will fall into place. And although you create a schedule, it may work great one day and have to be adjusted the next. That is completely normal. Here are a few resources, pick according to what works for you.
