Lori Atkins - Kitchen Manager
My name is Lori Atkins. This is my 5th year at Ridgeway as your Kitchen Manager/Lunch Lady.
I am a native Missourian, born and raised in Van Buren. I met my husband Ron forty years ago. We have a son together, Jason (34yrs).
Other than my love for nutrition, being in a kitchen experimenting with new ingredients, and making up my own recipes, I enjoy being outdoors with nature. Gardening and bird watching are my favorites. Indoor fun for me includes watching movies, reading poetry, and drawing.
Working at Ridgeway in the kitchen has been a very rewarding position. Giving a student good nutrition to fuel their learning is what I do. I am so lucky to do every day what I love.
Tarina Butler - Head Custodian
I have been with CPS for three years. I love my job and being around the staff and our scholars. My favorite things to do are to be around my family, cooking and listen to music.

Ridgeway Clubs
Please sign up for clubs no later than Friday, November 19.
We have a number of teachers that are offering after-school clubs starting in December. We will have two ‘sessions’ of clubs. Some clubs will meet December-February, and some clubs will meet March-May. Clubs start right after school and end at 4:00. Students must be picked up right at 4:00 please! We do not have any supervision for students after that time. Students that participate in Adventure Club may be dismissed to Adventure Club at 4:00.
Your child is bringing home a green club ‘menu’ today with the club options for the rest of the school year. It is also attached to this email. Below is a link to sign up for clubs.
Each club has a maximum number of participants, and they are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Please read the description on the menu before you sign up to be sure that your student is eligible for the club(s) for which they sign up. Each student will be assigned to one club if one is available. If there are extra spaces available once each student has been assigned their first club, we will start with our graduating 5th graders who will be assigned to a second club if one of their choices is available. We will then move through 4th graders, 3rd, etc. The more choices you provide, the more likely your child will have to be assigned to a club. We will fill slots based on the time stamp of your submission so sign up as soon as you can.

Ridgeway Book Fair
There's still time to visit or order online.
The Book Fair will take place in the Media Center
Thursday, November 10, 3:00-6:00
Friday, November 11, 8:00-10:00
Students will preview the selection during Media Specials next week, but sales will only be conducted Wednesday and Thursday after school and Friday morning. The Book Fair coincides with parent-teacher-student conferences, so we hope to see you all there!
We also have an online platform for our Book Fair. The online fair is open now and ends on November 12. This is a great option if you are not planning on attending an in-person conference, want to get a head start on shopping, or want to share the Book Fair link with extended family members.
Visit the virtual platform of our bookfair: https://efairs.follettbookfairs.com/ school code: ZX983
Books ordered online will be shipped to our school in the next few weeks and sent home with your child. This is a great time of year to shop for Holiday gifts! If you would like to order books for your child as a gift, please email Mrs. Munsterman at rmunsterman@cpsk12.org to arrange a pick up time.

From Mrs. Renaud in the Art Studio
Over the past 3 weeks, Ridgeway artists have been developing their craft in the art studio through an Artist Trading Card project. After viewing and discussing a few iconic playing cards from Marvel Comics, sports teams, and fan favorite Pokemon, artists began creating their own on 2.5 x 3.5 blank cards. I saw a huge range of topics and subjects in their cards, from animals and creatures to famous places and imagined worlds.
When we develop craft as artists, we learn to make choices about art materials and techniques. We improve our skills as artists by repeatedly engaging with materials and discovering how they can be tools for expressing our big ideas. Additionally, we learn to take care of, clean, and organize our materials and tools in our studio.
I encourage you at home to further develop your young artist’s craft by providing various art materials. Create a box or tote full of art materials that are always accessible: markers, colored pencils, crayons, scissors, glue, and blank paper. Revisit your existing supply and update it to spark new interest: stickers, stencils, texture plates, glue dots, sharpies, gel pens, googly eyes, modeling clay. Turn off the screen and set aside 30 minutes before bed to create! Feel free to email me for more suggestions or to help obtain art supplies for your family: rrenaud@cpsk12.org.

COVID Vaccine Information - Forms due November 15, 2021.
Dear Parents/Guardians:
The COVID-19 vaccine will be offered free of charge to students at Ridgeway Elementary on November 18, 2021. Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services will be on-site to administer the vaccine. This opportunity to have your child vaccinated is strongly encouraged, but it is NOT mandatory.
For your child to be vaccinated, the COVID-19 Vaccine School-Based Clinic Consent Form must be:
FULLY completed and SIGNED by the parent or legal guardian
Completed for EACH CHILD (you must return a separate form for each child you want vaccinated)
Returned to your school nurse by November 15, 2021.
The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine will be offered. The Pfizer-BioNTech Emergency Use Authorization Fact Sheet can be found at: https://www.fda.gov/emergency-preparedness-and-response/coronavirus-disease-2019-covid-19/comirnaty-and-pfizer-biontech-covid-19-vaccine
You may also contact your school nurse or Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services for Pfizer-BioNTech EUA Fact Sheets.
If you decline or do not return the required permission form to the school, the free COVID-19 vaccine will not be given to your student at school.
If you return the consent form, and your child receives the COVID-19 vaccine elsewhere, it is important that you notify your school nurse immediately. This will prevent your child from receiving a second dose of vaccine prematurely.
Children who do not get the vaccine at school may receive free COVID-19 vaccines at one of the many vaccinators in Boone County found at www.como.gov/covidvaccine.
If you have any further questions please contact your school nurse, Julie Roberts, RN at 573- 214-3550 ext. 59430.
