El Sierra School provides all students with a challenging and differentiated education in a safe, nurturing, respectful, diverse, and collaborative school environment.
Principal's Corner
El Sierra Families,
It has been a very busy week at El Sierra. Our students have been working hard on their NWEA MAP tests in reading and math. We take these tests three times a year, with this being our second time. While there were some technical delays for a few of the classrooms, our students worked hard on them.
Our students were very excited to actually have outdoor recess from the middle to the end of the week as well. It is always best to send your child to school with snow pants and snow boots if they want to play in the snow. Otherwise, all students without snow pants and snow boots will play on the blacktop. If our playground and gaga pit are too slippery due to the snow, they will not be used during recess times. While our students are doing a great job of not throwing snow, I would ask that you remind your child to not "eat" the snow. This is something that I have found myself reminding students about more than ever before. Believe me, I'll take that reminder over not throwing snow any day.
Please remember that there is no school this Monday, January 17th in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I have included a link to Dr. King's famous "I Have A Dream Speech." I have enjoyed sharing this with my own children over the years, so I hope your family can as well.
Thank you,
Jason Lynde, El Sierra Principal

Substitute Lunch/Recess Supervisors Needed! (Repeated Information)
El Sierra is in need of parents or community members to help with lunch/recess supervision when our full-time supervisors are not able to work. If you are interested in being a paid substitute lunch/recess supervisor, please contact Debbie or Michelle in the El Sierra office (dscarlati@dg58.org or mjunkas@dg58.org) or 630-719-5825. Thank you!
Optional COVID Vaccination Card Collection (Repeated Information)
District 58 invites families to voluntarily share an electronic image of their child’s vaccination card with their building’s health office. Providing proof of vaccination is not required. However, current CDC guidance excuses fully vaccinated individuals from having to quarantine unless symptomatic.
By sharing a copy of your child’s card, if your child is a close contact, having the vaccination card on hand will expedite the school’s investigation process. Copies of proof of vaccination will be kept in each student’s individual health file and treated in the same way as all health records. Please feel free to send a picture of your child's COVID vaccination card to your school nurse!

Voluntary COVID Testing Program Signup (Repeated Information)
District 58 encourages families to consider signing up for free PCR COVID-19 testing for District 58 students. Registration for this optional testing program is open and our program is actively underway.
Families can select from any or all of three types of testing services including:
Weekly screening testing (routine testing)
Symptomatic testing (testing when a student or staff member develops symptoms at school)
Test-to-Stay (testing for situations in which a student has been identified as a close contact)
Test-to-Stay, an IDPH-endorsed process that allows a close contact to remain in school with regular antigen testing, will begin next week. Please see the district communication regarding the IDPH's guidance regarding when Test-to-Stay can be implemented in schools.
