SCHOLAR HIGHLIGHT - JESSE ANDERSON
This week, we would like to spotlight Jesse Anderson, a 6th grade scholar. Jesse is an extremely outgoing and confident scholar who participates enthusiastically in his classes. He helps improve the overall vibe of a class by being positive, supportive, and encouraging to others (scholars and teachers!). He has recently discovered a love for photography, and has taken outstanding photos throughout the first semester. He shares that taking pictures is a stress reliever for him, and that it's a lot of fun! Jesse's photography samples include his award-winning shadow photography, his professional headshot, and his pet portrait.
Like most scholars, Jesse strives to do well in his classes. One class he struggled with early on was math, but with the help of his parents and teacher, he improved his grade from an F to an A. How did he do it? " I asked for help, which is the easiest way to get a better grade. Now I have a better relationship with my teachers because I attend office hours and ask for help when I need it." Great job Jesse... we know we will see great things from you in the future.
Our Rancho Minerva family is here and ready to help!

FROM SUPERINTENDENT'S COMMUNITY UPDATE:
Middle School Return to In-Person Learning One Day per Week Set for March 1, 2021
The School Board met on Thursday, February 11th to review options for returning middle school students who chose Vista Classic to in-person learning. During the meeting, two possible options were presented based on recommendations from the Superintendent’s Council for Innovative Learning and alignment to the most recent revision to the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) requirements for social distancing. The school board approved option one, which calls for one day per week in-person instruction, three days per week synchronous virtual live learning with the teacher, and one day per week asynchronous learning (without the teacher). Each middle school will be organizing the grouping, schedule, and communication plan for students and parents in the coming two weeks. Our administrative team will be working with teachers and staff to address appropriate impacts and effects so that our staff is supported as we implement this new structure. We anticipate all middle schools will start the week of March 1, 2021.
RMMS's Plan for School Re-opening - CLASSIC SCHOLARS
Classic scholars will be returning to campus beginning the week of March 1. Scholars will be divided into 2 groups, Group A and Group B. Scholars will be in classes with 17 scholars or less (except for PE) and be seated at least 6 feet apart from each other. We are continuing to work on the logistics. Classic scholars will attend in-person learning on Tuesday OR Wednesday, depending on their Group. All scholars will be virtual on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. We will be communicating all the details with families via email to parent, email to scholar, letter in the mail, and information will be available on our website. PLEASE LOOK FOR A SPECIAL COMMUNICATION ON MONDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2021 with all the details including groups and schedules. Thank you for your patience as we double-check everything.

Hapara is Now Active
Our school takes your child’s online safety seriously. The Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA) requires that K-12 schools and libraries use internet filters and implement other measures to protect children from harmful online content as a condition for the receipt of certain federal funding, especially E-rate funds.
Vista Unified has been using the Hāpara Instructional Suite to assist with this requirement, along with other important learning tasks. This was used on campus during the school day. With the pandemic and the creation of the Vista Virtual Learning Model, we will begin using the Hapara Instructional Suite to support our virtual learners beginning in January 2021. This is a great opportunity for your child/children because it will provide new ways to personalize learning to meet their individual needs, keep them safe during online lessons, and provide them with ongoing feedback on their work to encourage continuous learning and growth.

BE TECH SMART - KEEP YOUR SCHOLAR SAFE
FOCUS ON SNAPCHAT - FROM SMART SOCIAL
Teens love to connect with their friends in the Snapchat app. Photo and video filters make this a fun app to create silly images, but teens don’t always understand the long-term consequences of “just having fun.”
We want to help parents and teachers understand more about this app and how to help your students avoid the biggest dangers we see in this app. The SmartSocial SnapChat App Guide for Parents will get you started in understanding this app and the dangers your students face when they open the app.
