A Newsletter for Dove Elementary Families

September 11-15, 2017

A Note from the principal...

Hi Dove parents!

This past week, we hosted several visitors to our campus. A group of students from the PALs class at Colleyville-Heritage high school will be coming to Dove once a week this school year, and they stopped by at the beginning of the week. A football player from Colleyville-Heritage High School and several members of our Dove Dad's Club were at Dove to start our students' day off right on Friday. Whether it's students from our GCISD community or parent volunteers from our Dove community, we are so blessed to have the support of those around us! We know that our students and our school will be positively impacted by all those that set foot inside Dove! If you haven't already, please make sure you take the time to complete a volunteer background check and complete the necessary steps to become a Dove volunteer. For more information, click here.

This Tuesday, we would like to invite all our Dove parents to Curriculum Night at Dove. You will have the opportunity to hear directly from your child's teacher and ask any questions that you may have! We look forward to seeing you Tuesday night starting at 5:30!

Proud to be your principal,

Heather Landrum

Visiting Dove

All visitors to Dove must sign in at the front office. The designated front office staff member will ask if the person is visiting or volunteering and will view the visitor’s photo identification to confirm identity. Visitors will have their ID scanned each year. Returning visitors do not need to have their IDs scanned again but must present the photo ID to confirm identity. Please be prepared to show your ID to the ladies in the front office each time you visit or volunteer. Once identity has been confirmed, you will be issued a visitor/volunteer badge. This must be worn at all times while in the building during the school day (7:40-2:55), and you must return the badge to the front office to "sign out" when you leave. Thank you for your patience as we get our Raptor system back up and running from the summer and the potentially longer lines for visitors at special events. Maintaining a safe and secure school building is our utmost concern!

Our teachers and staff are excited to welcome the parents of our Dove Dolphins on this night for an engaging time of learning!

Volunteers Needed!

At Dove, we believe in the partnership between the classroom teacher, student, and parents, and we want you to be a part of our Dove community! Volunteers are needed for a variety of reasons throughout the year. Whether you will be working with a small group of students, filing papers for Monday folders, helping at Field Day, or chaperoning a field trip, all volunteers must view the GCISD Volunteer handbook and complete a background check every year. More information can be found on the Volunteer page on the GCISD Website. We look forward to seeing you around Dove soon!

Congratulations to Lisa Murphy who was named GCISD’s Substitute of the Month and will be featured in the district's September newsletter. Lisa has stepped right in to her role as a long-term substitute on our Special Education team and has built relationships with the students and teachers she works with. She always has a positive attitude and a smile on her face, and we are so BLESSED to have her with us at Dove!!

Thank you to the volunteers who beautified the garden area by the Dolphin Statue in front of the school!! We appreciate you!

From PTA...

Dear Dove Parents,

Our annual PTA Membership drive is going on now! Joining online is super quick and easy - just go to and follow the steps. Membership is open to both parents, students, grandparents, and anyone who wants to support Dove PTA. It takes about two minutes to join, and membership dues are just $10. If you have already joined, please consider joining your spouse, student, grandparents, and neighbors! Businesses can also join! Each membership counts towards Dove, and we are working towards our goal of 1:1 membership- that means for EVERY student enrolled at Dove, there is a PTA member. That is a lofty goal that only one campus in GCISD reached last year, but THIS year, we know Dove can achieve that recognition!

Here is a link to PTA's September Newsletter. If you did not receive the newsletter via email last Thursday, please click this link to sign up to receive the newsletters each month.

Please consider giving back to your child's classroom teacher in the way of supplies for their classroom! Access theDove Apple Tree link here to see what your child's classroom is in desperate need of!!

Birthday Treats Policy Change

I wanted to let you know about a campus-wide change regarding birthday celebrations. We love to celebrate our students and staff throughout the year; however, we want to be mindful of health guidelines and restrictions that could impact some of our dolphins. GCISD Health Services encourages and recommends that birthday treats be non-food items, so beginning with this school year, we will not permit food treats to be left at the receptionist desk in order to be delivered to the classroom.

We are not making this change because we don’t want students to be able to celebrate their birthday; we are being mindful of the health and safety of all students. Parents are more than welcome to deliver non-food items such as goody bags filled with pencils, erasers, stickers, gel pens, bubbles, etc. We also would welcome a book donation to the library in the name of your student.

I understand that this is a change from previous school years and we appreciate your cooperation as we make this shift moving forward.

I am looking forward to a great year of celebrations at Dove!
