A Message from the Principal
Dear PVES Families,
Hello and Happy February! January was a full month for us here at school and February looks to be the same! I know the months fly by this time of year and spring will be here before we know it!
I want to thank all of our Dads, Grandpas, and Male Guardians who have been coming in and volunteering in our classrooms. We're so excited to have kicked off our Big Paws program and appreciate the response we've had to it. If you would like to volunteer in your child's classroom or in our school for a day or part of a day, please contact the school and we'll get in you touch with! Coach Carcamo who is facilitating this great program for us!
Our PTO has purchased a large load of specialty mulch for our playground! We are beyond grateful as the playground needed some new mulch added and this is a significant purchase for our school. The delivery came last week and we have had help from parents in the start of the spreading process and will finish getting it spread on the 4th! Mulch is critical to the safety of our playground. If you are available on Monday, the 4th starting at 12:30 and want to come by the school at 12:30 to help finish spreading mulch - parents and guardians are welcome to join us.
Parent Conference Night is February 7th from 1:30-7:30pm. If you have not already set up a time to come to school to talk with your child's teacher, please do so! This is a great time to touch base, ask questions and build on our school to home partnership. We hope all our families can make it!
Sincerely,
Sara Hammill
Principal

Notes from Nurse Laurie
Keeping in mind the amount of illness during this time of year, here are a few reminders to help decrease the spread of germs:
· Use tissues to cover the mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing.
· Dispose of the tissue immediately in a trash can.
· If you don’t have a tissue, cough/ sneeze into your upper sleeve, not your hands.
· Remember to wash your hands after coughing or sneezing.
· Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
· When hands are not visibly dirty, alcohol-based hand sanitizers that contain at least 60% alcohol may be used.

What's Happening at PVES?
Mrs. Rhodes’ first grade class survived place value boot camp! Students marched and learned a place value chant, lined up least to greatest by their dog tag numbers, excercised outside by hearing numbers with certain place values, used chalk on our black top, raced around the track and completed a place value scavenger hunt! Turning learning into an experience makes all the difference - great job 1st grade!
