Go Green for Mental Health!

Have you noticed the vivid greens of spring this year? They seem particularly vibrant as they shifted from yellowish green to a now, deeper shade of green. After a long winter, it's always nice to see the trees bud into full-leafed glory! Did you know that green is the official color for Mental Health Awareness? It kind of makes sense. Green is the color of growth and renewal. Since all of us have "mental health" -- just like we all have "physical health" -- we are constantly growing and changing as we move along the continuum of mental health.

Consider wearing a green ribbon this month to show your support for mental health awareness. If someone asks you why you're wearing it, you'll have a great opportunity to share that May is Mental Health Awareness Month. That will give you a chance to check in to say, "How are you doing?" You never know when asking that question may be just what someone needs. Come by the S3 Office to pick up a green ribbon if you like or just wear green this month when you can!

Free Mental Health Services

The COVID pandemic has impacted many Americans’ lives in a variety of ways. Some have lost jobs, housing, and loved ones. Many have lost an overall sense of safety. Have you or your family been negatively affected by COVID? Do you think you or your family would benefit from counseling? If so, Mental Health American of the Carolinas (MHA) may be able to match you with a local mental health practitioner who can help.

Residents of Cabarrus or Mecklenburg counties may be eligible for free mental health services. Mental Health American of the Carolinas (MHA) is partnering with Disability Rights & Resources, Mecklenburg County and licensed local counselors to provide free short-term counseling for individuals affected by COVID, who cannot afford it on their own.
