Agriculture in the (Virtual) Classroom
Education ... just like agriculture, doesn't stop for a pandemic. But, education is evolving very fast from brick and mortar classrooms where kids are physically surrounding by friends to home-based learning labs and virtual classrooms. It has been a very interesting time to see how quickly farmers and educators have taken to the virtual classroom to aid parents in supporting the educational needs of their children.
If you aren't already, be sure to follow us on Facebook - "Whiteside County Ag in the Classroom." Share our information, too, so that the agriculture message is spread widely. Here's what you can expect to find on our Whiteside County Facebook page:
- "Everyday Agriculture" created by Illinois Ag in the Classroom - This includes a video segment plus additional AITC resources and activities - each day is a different topic.
- "Illinois Eggs in the Classroom" - eggs were set into the Illinois Ag in the Classroom incubator earlier this week - watch for progress and activities about chicks and poultry during the next three plus weeks.
- Videos, links and resources from Ag in the Classroom colleagues and agriculture partners across Illinois and the nation. These are evolving by the minute. If you find a great resource, be sure to share that with us.
- Local highlights for Ag in the Classroom - we're adding local content as it becomes available. If you have ag related photos or video you'd like to share on our Facebook page, please send them our way. If schools continue to remain closed, this could be a really fun way to share "Spring on the Farm." Keep us in mind as you prepare for and begin spring planting and care for farm animals. Whether you're working on the farm or you're the vet, mechanic, seed researcher, or mechanic ... send us a quick picture/video and caption or link to let kids know what you're doing to produce food, fiber and/or fuel for our families.
