The Colbert Report
What is satire?
It is pointing out injustice or stupidity mockingly with a moral voice in order to bring attention or understanding to a specific situation and or topic.
Examples of satire:
This is an exemplar of satire because it is bringing out the point that a little boy who is interested in organized crime is ironically expected to be a part of the government. This is using a moral voice to point out that the government is simply and organized crime group; insisting that the government is corrupt.
This is satire because it is politically referencing Romney's extreme wealth by saying his campaign for presidency highly favored his money, and that the tie he has to everyday american's is shallow.
This is a satirical direct address at the president as a "black guy asking the nation for change". This is highlighting the narrow minded way the nation essentially sees him, for his race, and mocks the disregard for any of the more important features about him such as the simple fact that he is asking for change.
Personal Satire by Micaela Roberts
“Have you been listening to the news about the Islamic refugees wanting to come into our country?”
“I did hear about that, I hate it. But I haven’t been watching the news because I am deliberately limiting my grasp of Islam and their culture because my narrow views are sufficient enough to shape my views of the entire Muslim population.”
“Because the .003% of Muslims who are extremists defines the entire religion of 1.6 billion people who actively practice.”
“Personally, I have no interest in exposing myself to any further knowledge of Islam and their culture or putting my rash opinions into a more broad context at all. I love making emotional charged words the basis of my mistrust against all members of the second largest religion in the world.”
“I figured out all that I needed to know on 9/11.”
“You know, I actually heard that all of the refugees are ISIS.”
“I will not examine the accuracy of that statement but I will definitely allow myself to become offended and angry from it and attempt to use it as valid evidence of all Muslim’s hatred towards America.”
“I have made it a point in my life to avoid personal interactions that might have the potential to alter my close-minded point of view.”
“Once, I almost gave in and read an article about how the refugees have children being murdered in Syria and all they want is to be saved and live in peace but then I remembered how much easier it is for me to live in a world of black and white where I can be prejudice against all people who contrast my personal views as a way to express my irrational fears and insecurities. “
“Well, it is our personal right to put a timetable on another majority of people’s freedom and well being.”
“Absolutely it is. All I am doing is protecting humanity by keeping the Muslims out of America.”
“Exactly, protecting humanity by putting the least important ones in danger and taking no consideration for their lives.”
