Salmonella is a bacterium that occurs mainly in the intestine, especially a serotype causing food poisoning.

It's usually found in poultry, eggs, unprocessed milk and in meat and water. It may also be carried by pets like turtles, rodents and birds.


Most people infected with Samonella have diarrhea, fever and abdominal craps 12 to 72 hours after being infected. This last from 4 to 7 days and most individuals recover without treatment. In some cases the diarrhea can be so bad that they will need medical treatment.

Quick Tips for preventing Samonella. Cook poultry, ground beef, and eggs thoroughly. Do not eat or drink foods containing raw eggs, or raw (unpasteurized) milk. If you are served undercooked meat, poultry or eggs in a restaurant, don't hesitate to send it back to the kitchen for further cooking.
