Dear Families

The month of January has quickly come to an end and we are looking forward to starting February. The start of the year as you know was not smooth as we had so much rain, power out for 2 days at school and students who continue to be sick. This month has been a very quiet month with just getting back into routines for our students. Our students continue to receive social emotional learning lessons with their teachers and we have seen a decrease in behaviors at recess and lunchtime. We continue to work with our students on the importance of learning to control our emotions, problem solve in appropriate ways, and to make sure that they let the adults on campus know when they have an issue.

We continue to work on improving attendance as we have not achieved as a school 92%. I realize that our student continue to get sick especially with the cough which last a long time. We started the school year with very good attendance and we have gone down. Please make sure to call the school office or fill out the absence form so that the school is notified. Second letters will be gong out for students who have unexcused or excessive absences. It is important that your child attend school so that they can continue to learn and make progress. We are asking for doctors notification when your child has been out after 3 days.

LATE/TARDY

Please remember that we start school at:

  • 8:15 am for 3rd, 4th, and 5th
  • 8:20 for TK, K,1st, and 2nd.

Everyday we have over 50 or more students who are late. It is important that your child arrive on time so that they can start their morning with their class and that they are not missing out on important information.

If your child has an appointment during the morning or day, please remember to bring in the doctor notification so they can be excused.

This month TK through third grade started music with Music for MInors and we are happy to have them participate once again in music.

Character Trait for February

Fairness is our new character trait for this month of February. Ways parents can teach fairness at home:

  • Play by the rules.
  • Take turns and share.
  • Be open-minded.
  • Listen to others.
  • Don’t take advantage of others.
  • Don’t blame others carelessly

When you hear, “It’s not fair!” ask your child to define what is unfair about the situation. Usually when you hear this, it means your child didn’t receive something he/she thinks was deserved or an expectation hasn’t been met-whether real or imagined.

Discuss the question “Does fair mean equal?” with your child.

Talk about situations in school, home or the community where the answers may sometimes be “yes” and sometimes “no”.

Set family goals. Have each member of the family complete the following sentence and post it where it will serve as a reminder: I will show fairness by: ______________________.

DROP OFF and PICK UP

Families please remember to drop off on the right side of 10th Ave. We have had several neighbors complaining that people are parking and blocking driveways. Remember driveways are not for parking. Please be mindful of the homes that are around our school. I also want to remind you that there are no U-TURNS on 10th either as this blocks traffic. Please follow all traffic laws.

The picture on the right is one of the driveways that continues to have parents park in this area. Please be respectful of our neighbors.

STAFF PARKING LOT

Please remember that the parking lot is for staff only. We continue to have parents drive into the parking lot to drop off students.
