Johnston Community School District is providing FREE LUNCH and BREAKFAST meal bundles each Monday, (Tuesday after Memorial Day holiday), for all children ages 1 – 18 years old.

Drive up to any of the approved site locations (JHS North Parking Lot; Meredith Drive Reformed Church; Chapel Ridge Apts) between 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. Participants can remain in the vehicle, pop the trunk and a volunteer will place a bundle of five (5) lunch meals plus five (5) breakfast meals for each child in the vehicle. Each Monday (Tuesday after Memorial Day holiday = 4 meals) a five (5) day supply of free Breakfast and Lunch meals per child will be offered through August 10, 2020.

The account balance will remain in the student lunch accounts to be used next school year. Questions can be emailed to cspring@johnston.k12.ia.us

  2. If the senior does not have a sibling in district, an email or phone call will be made to the parent to make arrangements for a refund check or option to donate remaining money to a student in need.

Superintendent Laura Kacer gave two reports to the board. The first focused on the new strategic plan, including a first look at the public-facing, one-page strategic plan document. Board members were given perspective assignments and asked to review the documents for affirmations, questions, and considerations to take to the June 8 work session.

The second report outlined the events and celebrations planned for JHS seniors in the Class of 2020. Laura covered things that had already been done and events coming up. The board saw two tentative in-person graduation ceremony dates (June 27 and July 18, with rain dates of June 28 and July 19). A full list of senior activities can be found here.

Due to COVID-19 precautions and restrictions, all in-person board meetings have been moved to conference line or virtual meetings. Access information is published with the agenda on the Friday before the meeting. Meetings are also livestreamed at https://team1sports.com/johnston/.

Persons are encouraged to send questions, comments and suggestions to our board members. Each board member can be reached by email: Justin Allen; Dr. Jeanie Kerber; Jennifer Chamberland; Dr. Alicia Clevenger; Katie Fiala; Steven Hopper; and Soneeta Mangra-Dutcher.
