PARENT NEWSLETTER - AUGUST 2016-
"CREATING A COMMUNITY OF LEARNERS"
From the desk of Mrs. Harrison
We have had an amazing start to the 2016-2017 school year due to the efforts put forth by each and every member of our school family.
Thank you to our teachers and staff for your hard work preparing your classrooms to provide engaging and supportive learning activities from Day One.
Thank you to our students for coming to school from the first day eager to learn and willing to put forth your best effort. It has been a true joy!
Thank you to our parents for being so supportive of our school and teachers, and overwhelmingly patient and flexible as we work out all the kinks we find during our first few weeks back.
As we look forward to the rest of the school year, our faculty is committed to ensuring that each and every child is provided an opportunity to excel academically, physically, and socially. We know that we can only accomplish this through a true partnership between the school, our parents, and the students, and we invite you to join us on this journey.
You can help your child achieve his/her personal goals through the following procedures and activities:
· Check and sign your child’s agenda every night and the Bronco folder every Monday.
· Review your child’s homework after it has been completed and help make any needed corrections or changes.
· Arrive at school by 7:50 am to give your child adequate time to be in the classroom and ready for instruction by 8:00 am.
· Maintain open and frequent communication with your child’s teacher.
We also provide several ways schoolwide that parents can stay abreast of all the events/happenings by doing a number of things: 1) log onto our Brooks school website @ http://www.cowetaschools.org/brooks/ 2) join Remind101 at http://www.remind101.com/ 3) follow me on Twitter @BrooksBroncos and 4) ask to join our Brooks Facebook page.
Through ongoing communication, we truly believe that together we ensure each child’s success at Brooks. I look forward to working with each of you and getting to know your family throughout the course of this year.
After an amazingly successful first couple of days, I can only imagine where this year will take each of us. Again, welcome back to Brooks-we are glad you are a part of our family!

NEWS YOU CAN USE FROM THE MEDIA CENTER:
Welcome back everyone! It’s hard to believe that this is the beginning of our 8th year! I have a lot of new ideas for our media center and can’t wait to share them with the students.
Mark your calendars! Our first book fair will be the week of August 29th – September 2nd. This is also the week we celebrate Grandparents Week at Brooks. We can’t wait to see all the parents and grandparents who come to eat lunch! We hope you definitely visit the book fair in the media center.
The book fair will open each day at 7:30am-3:00pm. All proceeds from the book fair go to buy books and materials for our media center. If you would like to help volunteer with the book fair, please let me know (sherry.copeland@cowetaschools.net) and I will pass your along your name to my book fair chairs.
Many of you have signed up your child(ren) for the Birthday Book Club (BBC) in years past. This is another fundraiser that helps purchase books for the media center. BBC forms will be sent home soon and they are also available on the Brooks website under the media center tab. http://www.cowetaschools.org/brooks/
I can’t wait for students to begin coming to the media center to check out books and for media lessons!
