Is this the ugliest cake you have ever seen?
I determined this year is going to be different. (Do I sound a little like Charlie Brown when Lucy is holding the football for him to kick?) I did everything that I know to do for a different result; buttered and floured the pan, used my spatula around the edges, and I even bought a new pan. Not only was the result the same, it actually looked worse than it ever had.
This got me thinking about some of our students. So many times on the outside, they don't look so good. They might have dressed themselves that day, or wore the same clothes for the third day, or only have one pair of shoes to wear that don't fit, or even worse, haven't bathed in days. However, once I get past the outside, they have so much to offer. They want to learn and grow and be loved everyday. They deserve the best that I have to offer. This thought made me think, my cake wasn't that bad after all.
Remember this picture the next time you experience one of students with a certain odor! They have just as much to offer as the student dressed in cutest outfit that could be purchased. Although this cake wouldn't win any baking contests, it certainly tastes great! I wouldn't have known that if my husband only judged "this cake by it's cover"!
