CMS Robotics Claim District Titles; Headed to State at Auburn

CMS Robotics -- both the 7th and 8th grade team, as well as the 5th and 6th grade team -- continued their march toward the state tournament at Auburn University this past weekend as they participated in the Jefferson County VEX IQ Championship at North Jefferson Middle School.

The 7th and 8th grade teams -- The Almost Golden Girls (Brooke Linkenhoker, Lexie Hicks, Elizabeth Minor, and Alyssa Tolbert) and The 4 Jacketeers (Cade Schollian, Caden Little, Caden Craven, and Heath Pierce) move on to the state competitions later this month. The Almost Golden Girls qualified by winning first place at a district competition earlier in the season. The 4 Jacketeers qualified by winning first place at the County Championship on Saturday. The team also won the Judges' Award for the help they provided a team from another school when their robot fell off of a table and broke. The CMS team helped them hurriedly reassemble the robot so the other team could finish the competition.

The 5th and 6th grade teams -- The Mighty Ducks (Eli Kizziah, Logan McAdams, Larky Norris, Jett Perkins, and Will Tingle), The Warbots (Alison Drummond, Ethan Kirkpatrick, Gavin Peters, Bronx Smith, and Jack Smith), and The Corner Shockwaves (Blake Little, Lindsey McDade, David Brown, and Lucas Skinner) -- all advanced to state. The Mighty Ducks were Teamwork Champions and Skills Match Champions. The Warbots were Teamwork Champions. The Shockwaves brought home the Excellence Award.

The teams are coached by Jennifer Harris and Anita Wiley. Congratulations, to all of our future engineers and their coaches!

Clinics and Tryouts Scheduled for CMS Students This Week

Students in grades 6 and 7, as well as those in grade 8, have the opportunity to participate in tryout clinics on Monday through Thursday and tryouts on Friday of this week. At Corner Middle School, cheerleading sponsors, Lauren Wakefield and Jennifer Rouse, are hosting a four-day tryout clinic in the Competition Gym on campus from 3:00 to 5:00, with tryouts scheduled for Friday from 3:00 to 5:00. This will be for the 2023-2024 squad.

At Corner High School, director Adam Murphy is hosting a Dance Team clinic the first four days of next week from 3:30 to 5:00, and tryouts on Friday. Eight grade students interested in participating will ride a designated shuttle to CHS after school. You must have a note from a parent or guardian submitted to the office giving permission to ride the shuttle bus.

Good luck to all of the students trying out this week!
