Pajama Day!
Dear Cedar Grove Families,
Yesterday, we enjoyed wearing pajamas to school, and last night we had an awesome Read Aloud Night! Thank you to our families who were able to attend, and we hope your children enjoyed all the great books that were shared. Many thanks to our staff readers and a special thank you to Mrs. Hirschhorn for organizing this virtual event! As requested by some of our families, here is the list of books that our teacher-readers read to their guests!
All students now have access to free tutoring and 24/7 Homework Help to support success in their current courses/grade level, through two new approved tutoring providers, FEV Tutor and Tutor Me Education. As part of comprehensive strategies to mitigate learning disruption associated with the pandemic, all students will have access to these virtual tutoring services through their MCPS Google Account, using Clever. More information can be found here: https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/curriculum/tutoring.aspx
As you can see from the report below, our students were able to divert 537 pounds of food from landfills and incinerators in December for our compost program! We are so proud of our students for their efforts and for the difference they are making in our environment. As a school community, we can do more by supporting a bill that would bring the composting program to schools throughout the state of Maryland (click here for a fact sheet on this bill).
Next week, we will provide students in Grades 3-5 with a postcard, which may be completed by students, parents, and/or staff to support the bill. If you are interested, please fill out the postcard and return it to your child's homeroom teacher by the second week of February. They will then be delivered to the delegate's office to show our support.
Have a wonderful weekend!

The Maryland Association of School Libraries - "I Love My School Library" Contest
Do you love our school library? Well, we have the perfect contest for you! The “I Love My School Library” contest is a chance for our students to say and show why they LOVE their school library and what might just make it the best library in Maryland.
The contest will be open during the month of February and there will be three winners (elementary, middle and high). Prizes are involved 😊.
Tech Tips and Reminders
From Mrs. Hirschhorn, Media Specialist
As we come to the end of January the media monthly is updated to reflect what we're doing by grade level. You'll also find more details regarding the grade 5 book club, which is having its first meeting on Monday. We hope you participated in our Read Aloud Night which was a success -- there were so many children (and grownups) in jammies yesterday; it was wonderful!
Art, Music, and PE Newsletter
Parents, each month our Arts team will share a newsletter that will provide you with what grade level students are doing in their classes.
