Are you assessing your students' Lexile ranges? What measures are you using? Do your students know their Lexile levels? Unfortunately, there is no true correlation measure between Lexiles and Guided Reading Levels. The first place to begin is reviewing students' MAP scores. A Lexile range is provided for each student. To find the exact Lexile level according to MAP, add 100 points to the lowest number of the range. So if a student has a Lexile range of 350-550, their true Lexile level is a 450. You can learn more about finding a students' Lexile level using the link below.

Using the website, lexile.com, you are able to look up titles of books and enter portions of the text to find its Lexile level. While it may take a little more time than using Guided Reading Leveled texts, it is important that you are assigning texts that are in the students' Lexile level and are pushing them to grow. If you haven't done so yet, please start using Lexiles to match texts to students and track their progress.
