The Sneak Peek
Nov. 2nd, 2018
Dear Families,
It is hard to believe it is November already! Where did the first quarter go? We had a wonderful week this week. Tuesday was a great success thanks to all who were able to donate and those who were able to volunteer. Friday was filled with fun as we attending the production of "The Little Mermaid' at The Davidson Community Players. Next week we are back to our routine and diving into some new units of study!
Class Curicullum
Reader's Workshop
This week we begin our new unit on Nonfiction! Children will be working on answering who, what, where, when why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in text. It is important that children are able to refer back to the text. We will be highlighting in the text and using sticky notes as strategies to siting text.
Writer's Workshop
This week we have been studying different 'How-To' text and brainstorming topics on which we could write our own 'How-To' books! We will be discussing audience and author's purpose.
Math
We continue to learn about adding two 2-digit numbers. We will be discussing using partial sums and base tens. It is very important that place value is well established for these methods. This week I was very impressed to see how partial sums is used in later grades for multiplication, very cool vertical alignment of curriculum.
Social Studies
This week we will be discussing elections and be discussing four possible school/ community projects. Examples; Clean Cafe Everyday, Notes of Kindness Project...etc. If you have a favorite project idea, I would love to hear it!
