Checking Out the LRC

In the library, students have been working on using resources inside and outside of the library to access information and other reading materials.


Activities we have been engaging in:

  • Navigating OverDrive to check out e-books outside of school

  • Learning about how to participate in the Woodridge Public Library Summer Reading Program

  • Selecting fiction and nonfiction reading materials to keep

  • Reflecting on a variety of genres and recommending genres or specific books to others


Concepts we have been engaging with:

  • Using resources inside and outside of school and in the community to access reading materials

  • Expanding literary horizons

  • Reflective reading

  • Appreciating a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts

  • Information access skills


As we wrap up the year, students are preparing and gathering tools to become information and media literate and keep up the good reading over summer!

Kinder-Kids

  • Navigating WorldBook Online to do research about insects

  • Using keywords to gather information and answer questions about insects

  • Gathering facts and recording information about insects

Friends of First Grade

Activities & Tools we have been engaging with:

  • Using the iPad and written charts to record observations

  • Measuring plants and recording measurement data

  • Sharing data with other scientists (classmates)

  • Using tools in Wixie to graph observations on plant growth

  • Using iMovie to create a time-lapse story of plant growth

  • Interviewing each other to collect and graph information

Fourth Grade Family

  • Blogging/commenting to communicate and collaborate with others outside of our classroom walls and spur learning

  • Using digital tools to create, present, and share Ted Talks
