Many people may wonder how Chopra reached such high levels of fame. Anupama Chopra's biography is wide and diverse. Hailing from Calcutta to a Punjabi Khatri family, she was born having the name as Anupama Chandra. Chopra had a mother who was a scriptwriter, writing dialogues for many different films such as Chandni (1989) and Prem Rog (1982). This was perhaps her first exposure to the industry.
Growing up in Mumbai where she resided in Nepean Sea Road and then Cuffe Parade; Chopra also resided in Hong Kong for a brief portion during her teenage years. She also had a sister, Tanuja Chandra who is a Bollywood director and screenwriter; and a brother; Vikram Chopra who is novelist. She graduated from St. Xavier’s Institute, where she obtained a BA in English Literature she went on to become a film journalist.
She completed her MA in journalism from Northwestern University’s (NU/NWU) Medill School of Journalism which is based in Illinois, United States. While at the university, she was also presented the Harrington Award for magazine journalism. Married to Bollywood film-maker and director, Vidhu Vinod Chopra her entire life has been surrounding the Indian film industry. Her work has been published in renowned magazines, newspapers and international publications inclusive of The New York Times, Sight and Sound, The Los Angeles Times and Variety.
