Our Lady of the Cape Primary School
Newsletter - Friday 9th December 2022
Dear Parents, Grandparents and Caregivers in the OLC Community,
Inspiring Christ-Centred Leaders
The learning experiences and the many opportunities during this year could not have happened without a great deal of commitment and support from staff, students and parents. I wish to take this opportunity to acknowledge and farewell a number of our community members.
Our Year 6 Students should be commended for the way in which they led by example throughout 2022, consistently upholding our Core Values of Compassion, Appreciation, Respect and Excellence. They were shining examples of Making Jesus Real in their interactions with staff, students and the wider OLC Community and positively impacted our school in many ways by being true witnesses to their faith.
We thank God for our Year 6 students and families who will be leaving our school community this year and wish them every blessing as they embark on their new journeys. Congratulations on all your achievements during your time at OLC and we wish you all the best in your future endeavours. May God’s blessings be with you all.
We also farewell school families who will not be returning next year. Your time here has been a blessing to our community, and we are grateful for your support of our school. I wish you all every happiness in your new journeys and may God’s blessing be with you all.
Catholic Schools of Excellence
Thank you to our dedicated staff for their energy, passion and enthusiasm. They have nurtured your child’s learning and recognised the good and the potential of each child. I take this opportunity to thank all the staff of OLC School. Their enthusiasm and dedication should serve as an inspiration for us all. It never ceases to amaze me the length they go to, as they ensure our children are safe and happy and reaching their full potential.
We farewell Miss Nikita Rees, who has accepted a position at a Catholic School in Perth. We wish Nikita every success as she continues her teaching career at her new school. Mrs Monique Wendelin will be taking maternity leave at the end of this year. We wish Monique and her husband Hugh every happiness with the arrival of their baby next year.
Thank you to our students, who continually showed us the importance of counting our blessings, having a positive attitude, finding joy in the small things and caring for God’s creation.
Catholic Pastoral Communities
Thank you to our parents for supporting and advocating for OLC in a positive manner. In particular, we thank the members of our School Advisory Council and the Parents and Friends who have given generously of their time to support our school community through the various friend raising and fundraising events this year. Accessible, Affordable and Sustainable

I am also pleased to inform our school community that the Minister for Education has approved an Australian Government Capital Grant of $548,000.00 to assist our school with the Stage 7 demolition and modification of existing early childhood buildings and construction of a new kindergarten and Year 1 classroom. Building will commence mid-2023.
Thank You
I would like to express my appreciation to the OLC community for making me feel very welcome. It has been my pleasure to lead the Our Lady of the Cape School for the past semester. I will take fond memories of my time at OLC wish and members of the school community continued success in the future.
On behalf of the team at the Our Lady of the Cape School, I wish you all a very happy and holy Christmas, and may the year ahead be filled with blessings and joy.

2022 SCHOOL FEE ACCOUNTS
As we are drawing to the close of our 2022 year, all families need to ensure that school fee accounts are cleared by the end of term. If you already have a direct debit in place, you do not need to do anything. If you are unable to clear your fee account, you will need to make an appointment to speak to the Principal to discuss what options are available to you. The finance team will be calling anyone that still has outstanding fees over the next week.
Reports
YEAR 6 REPORTS
Parents of students in Year 6 and children who are leaving OLC at the end of this year will need to either print off their child’s reports or save them as, as reports will not be able to be accessed once children leave the school.
Kindy Dance Day
Thank you to all of the beautiful families that came to bust a move in the Kindy Red & Kindy Blue Dance Days.
All students were beaming with pride and absolutely loved sharing the dance floor with you all!

Little Seedlings News
We held our last Seedlings session for the year on Wednesday and were lucky enough to have a surprise visit from the man in the red suit! We thank Santa for coming all of the way from the North Pole to come and see us at OLC. It was a very special morning for all of the children.
To our families who have little ones commencing Kindy in 2023, I hope the transition goes well for both children and parents. I very much look forward to seeing our Seedlings in the playground at school next year!
For those of you who are interested in attending Seedlings next year, please enter your details in the short form below. This link takes you to the form for our 2023 group. It is an expression of interest to attend. All pre-existing families who are still attending are also asked to fill out another form for next year https://forms.office.com/r/PRvgTxkXhP
Stay tuned early next year for further information about when our Seedlings playgroup will be recommencing. Wishing everyone a safe and happy Christmas and I hope that Santa is good to you all!

RE NEWS
A huge thank you to Cath, Tim and James Dwyer; Caz, Ellie and Matilda Richardson; Beth, Sam and Clancy Duffield, Holly, Maddi, and Flynn Rogan, Anne-Marie and Violet Clift and Nat, Lewis, Frieda and Enzo Whitley who gave up their Sunday to help with the catering and serving during Fr. Ian’s 50th Anniversary celebrations last weekend. The food was delicious, and the event perfectly coordinated. The students were very helpful on the day, serving and clearing plates. The efforts of all were most appreciated by Fr. Ian and the parishioners. Thanks also to the students and Mrs King who came to provide the music for the mass.
WORLD’S GREATEST SHAVE
Three brave members of our school community are shaving their locks for cancer! Can you help? Here’s why:
Over the past two years I have witnessed and heard the heartbreaking stories of three families and their arduous journey of leukemia treatment with their children. The strength and resilience of these children and their families was truly inspiring. At times I feel there is little anyone can do to help except just be present. However, one thing I can do is grow healthy hair. So, on the 11th December I will be having my long locks cut off and will be donating the hair to Sustainable Salons to make medical wigs for cancer and alopecia patients. These wigs help give people confidence back as they embark on their journeys. And then the rest of the hair will be shaved off to raise money for the Leukemia Foundation who help give those facing blood cancer the emotional and practical support they need and fund vital research. Clancy's in Dunsborough have kindly put their hand up to host my shave event. The support shown so far has been amazing and I now have two more willing participants to join me on the 11th – thank you Zoe Mant (3L) and her Mum Erin for both being brave and shaving with me!!
So, I am asking anyone able to please dig deep and donate at https://secure.leukaemiafoundation.org.au/registrant/FundraisingPage.aspx?RegistrationID=872581 or to come along for some fun and donate at the event at Clancy's on the 11th Dec 2022 at 2.30pm to witness these much loved locks come off! Thank you in anticipation!
