Cornerstone Makerspace
Making in the Library
Why?
What is a learning commons?
A learning commons is "a space without barriers, one where individuals would congregate and engage in co-learning." -Edutopia (January 14, 2015)
A learning commons transforms a library from a place where knowledge is simply archived or held to a place where new learning is created. As books, technology, and our culture evolves, libraries must be ready to meet the needs of patrons. A makerspace would begin that transition.
Makerspace definition...
BFMS Makerspace
The cart would house two types of stations. One station would be a "fixed" station. Examples of types of "fixed" stations would be legos, a green screen, Sphero or Litte Bits, & art supplies. "Flexible" stations would be based on a theme and changed monthly. "Flexible" stations would be driven largely by student and teacher interest and the curriculum being taught that month.
