First Day of School
The first day of school for grades 1-12 is Thursday, August 24, 2023. Early Childhood will hold a parent/student Open House at designated times on August 24 and 25 with the first day of school on August 28. Kindergarten will hold a parent/student orientation at various times on August 24 with the first day on August 25. This year's school calendar is online at 2023-24 School Calendar.
Excessive Heat
Thursday, August 24 is the first day of school for Indian Prairie School District. An excessive heat watch will also be in effect. Fortunately, the vast majority of our school learning environments are air conditioned.
Our schools will consult the Child Care Weather Chart provided by the Illinois State Board of Education to assist in determining if it is safe for students to go outdoors for recess, P.E. class, or similar activities. We will monitor conditions and modify these activities as appropriate.
Please remind students to wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and proper shoes. Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle to school to assist in proper hydration throughout the day. We will also have water available for students.
At this time, we are planning for a regular school day schedule. As always, if you have concerns about your child, please contact their school directly.

Transportation
Transportation information is available in StudentVUE and ParentVUE. Please know that the start of each school year brings with it the potential for some overcrowding on buses. During the first few weeks of school, especially on high school bus routes, rider counts fluctuate as students explore their various methods of transportation. We ask for your patience as bus drivers and school administrators take daily head counts of high volume routes and adjustments are made to route assignments. Please allow at least 10 minutes for a late bus before calling your school.

Food Service
If you believe your family may qualify for free or reduced priced meal benefits, please complete a Household Eligibility Application | Spanish Version.
Please make sure your students have adequate funds on their PushCoin account. Even if your family receives free or reduced meals, a la carte items are “extras” that get charged to their account. You can deposit funds to their account at www.pushcoin.com. Setting up a PushCoin account and reviewing balances and purchases is at no extra cost.
