We also got to show off our books at the Pancake Dinner on Wednesday night. The kids were pretty excited to showcase their books and I was so proud of their work! We shared our books with Mrs. Hamilton's class today and are ready to bring them home. Your child should be bringing their book home in their backpacks today!

We are Learning
Reading
This week, we continued to talk more about characters in a book series. We talked about how the author paints a picture with their writing. They describe the setting, include sound words, use small actions, and include lots of dialogue. We also talked about how authors use precise words to create really clear pictures in the readers minds. We set out to find how authors do this when we read our books.
Writing
We also continued our study of opinion writing! We read the book, Duck! Rabbit! The kids had to decide if they saw a duck or rabbits in the clouds. They wrote strong opinion pieces, and shared them with each other to see if they could persuade others to see their side. Many of them were very persuasive!
Math
This week we focused on capacity. The kids learned about gallons, quarts, pints, and cups. We spent time practicing converting one measurement to another. We also relied on the gallon man to help us with this! We will practice this skill on Monday when we follow a recipe to make chocolate chip cookies. During this time, we will focus on measurement using cups, etc. and even have to convert a few measurements to make sure we are going to get to taste an edible cookie! A permission slip was sent home on Thursday and needs to be signed by Monday in order for your child to try their cookie!
When we wrap up our study of measurement, we will move on to time!
Science
This week, we wrapped up our study of matter and began our study of weather. The kids have lots of background knowledge on this topic and we spent time talking about what we'd like to learn and how we are going to learn it! We will continue our study next week.
In Mystery Doug this week, we learned when and where pizza was invented.
