Principal's Message
On Thursday of this week, some 6th grade science students were moving around the building and comparing Grizzell Middle School to a cell as part of a classroom activity. Students were taking pictures of things around the school that have the same function as the cell's organelles. During this activity, we had many visitors throughout the day to my office and the main office. The students were taking pictures of areas and people in both of these areas. At the end of the day, the office staff and I were sharing how impressed we were the the behavior and manors of all of these students. They excited about the activity and we heard all groups ask, "do you mind if we got a picture of you?" and it was always followed up with a "thank you". These behaviors are a direct reflection of the environment in which they were raised and the positive qualities that have been instilled at home. This is just another example of the amazing students that come to us each day. We understand how lucky we are to have the opportunity to work with such amazing young men and women and we appreciate the collaboration and support.
Thank you and have a great weekend.

Parent Night for Rising 6th Graders on Thursday, February 24th from 6:30 pm - 7:00 pm
Attention soon to be 6th grade Grizzell Middle School Families.
I know that it is only February and August seems a long way off, but as we begin our scheduling process for the 2022/2023 school year, we wanted to invite parents in for a brief informational meeting. The parent meeting will take place in the Grizzell Middle School Gymnasium on Thursday, February 24th, from 6:30 - 7:00 pm. During this time, we would like to share information about music options for next school year, a typical 6th grade schedule, some of our general policies and procedures, and also give you the opportunity to meet the administration and guidance counselors that will be working with your students next school year. If you can make this time work in your busy schedule, we would love for you to join us. If you are not able to attend that evening, I will be sharing the slideshow presentation through your building principal.
Thank you and we look forward to seeing you on the 24th.

Winter Sports Wrap Up
WRESTLING
Our grapplers ended their season by traveling over to our friends at Davis MS for a two-day tournament at the end of January. After the first night, the boys were sitting in the middle of the pack of the 12-team event. But they came back on Saturday morning with a vengeance and rolled into the final dual match needing a victory. They got it to secure a very solid THIRD PLACE finish in the Mean Green Duals! Congrats boys!!
7th GRADE BOYS BASKETBALL
Our 7th grade boys cagers started in November with a very tough early season schedule and started with a record of 3 - 5. BUT, they started clicking on all cylinders and won 10 of their last 11 to finish with a 13 - 6 record and the Consolation Bracket Championship trophy in the 18-team Dublin 7th Grade Invitational Tournament. We can't wait to see what's in store as 8th graders next season! Great work, fellas!
8th GRADE BOYS BASKETBALL
Like their younger 7th grade brothers, the 8th grade boys started the season a little slow but went ON A TEAR and ran off 12 (TWELVE!) straight wins to wrap up the regular season and first two rounds of the Martin Memorial Tournament @ Hilliard Weaver! They ran into a couple very skilled teams to end their run and finished in 4th place of the 18-team tournament. They also finished with a 13 - 6 record. Way to turn it around, boys!
7th GRADE GIRLS BASKETBALL
Our 7th grade girls squad started off the season learning the ropes of middle school basketball and progressively improved. They entered their postseason in the top bracket of the Hilliard Heritage Panther Pride Tournament. Although they didn't find much success in the tournament, they too finished the season with a very respectable 10 - 7 final record. Most importantly, they got better as a group each week! See you next season, girls!
8th GRADE GIRLS BASKETBALL
WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS! This group of young ladies came into their season with high expectations and did not disappoint! Not only did they get better and better as the season progressed, they had A LOT of fun doing it! This squad entered the Hilliard Memorial PAW Tournament as the #3 seed, ran off first and second round wins, and then met up with their arch nemesis, Hilliard Memorial, in the championship game. They pulled off one final W by a score of 30-25 to finish with a stellar 16 - 2 record and the tournament championship! If you did not get a chance to see them play, you missed out. But, fortunately, they have four years remaining at Coffman and Jerome High Schools and it's going to be a blast watching them continue to develop as players. Congrats and thanks for the lasting GMS memories, ladies!

8th Grade Washington DC Trip Information Update
Please see the information below relating to our trip in the spring. There are also several attachments to look through. This is the same information that I shared in my email to 8th grade parents earlier in the week.
Grizzell Eighth Grade Parents:
We are roughly 60 days from the eighth grade optional school trip to Washington D.C, and as such, I wanted to send an update on where things currently stand as it pertains to our itinerary and need to know information to make your child’s trip as safe and fun-filled as possible. Please see the important information below:
● The final day for payments for your child’s trip is February 26, 2022. Please make sure you are up to date on your Prodigy account.
● For individual families who wish to opt out of their previous selection to send their child on this trip, the Prodigy School Travel (PST) individual refund policy applies: non-refundable deposit of $125 will be retained (roughly 84% of the trip price). Per this individual policy, PST would also retain any funds they are unable to reacquire from vendors should any apply --- If you have previously registered, but have changed your mind, please send yuen_amber@dublinschools.net an email so we can take your child off of our Grizzell roster as well.
● PST will not require students to be vaccinated to attend this trip.
● Please see the PST COVID Protocol Sheet for up to date information on masking, isolation practices should a student become ill, parent responsibility for transporting an ill child, etc.
● Per Dublin City Schools current face covering policy for the middle school level, students who are not mask exempt will be strongly recommended to wear a face covering.
○ ALL students should plan to bring their own face coverings (regardless of exemption status) as there are some buildings in our nation’s capital that require a face covering for entry. *see COVID protocol sheet from PST, point #8
○ Additional face masks will be provided by the district, however students should plan to bring their own supply (5-7) for the trip.
● Please email our Grizzell trip advisor, yuen_amber@dublinschools.net, if you have questions prior to this event.
● Rooming assignments for students who are planning on attending will take place during the week of February 7, 2022. Trip price is based upon a quad-occupancy room.
