Letter to parents 9.1
Lakewood Families-
We are so excited to welcome back our traditional learning students next Tuesday, September 8th. Students who are registered for online learning will continue online. We will be working to keep students as safe as possible, so there will be some updates in school procedures.
Arrival
-School begins at 7:50 am.
-Parents will need to assess their child using the HEB Health Screener before coming to school. This Health Screener is located in the newsletter. If the student has any of the symptoms, the parent can contact Nurse Raut (NishaRaut@hebisd.edu) or call the main office with any questions.
-Students will need to arrive in a mask. Any mask will work, and the school will provide one per student. If you prefer a different mask, that is fine.
-Student drop-off begins at 7:30 am. Doors will not open until 7:30 am.
-Students will receive a temperature check when they arrive. If the student reads at 100 degrees or higher, we will ask the parent to wait for 5 minutes while we bring the child in and do another check. We know it can be hot outside and we want to make sure the reading is accurate.
-Students will enter through entrance A, C, D, L and K until 8:15am. After 7:50am, you are tardy and will receive your tardy slip at the entrance you use. After 8:15am, students will ring the bell and come through the front doors in the circle drive. They will receive their tardy slip in the front office.
-Kindergarten and first grade will enter through entrance D facing Bocowood Drive.
-Second grade will enter through entrance C in the front circle drive facing Donley Drive.
-Third will enter through entrance A in the front circle drive facing Donley Drive.
-Fourth grade will enter through entrance L facing Ash Lane.
-Fifth grade will enter through entrance K or L facing Ash Lane.
-Sixth grade will enter through entrance K facing Ash Lane.
-If you have students who are siblings or are being dropped off together, they can come through the same entrance. We are trying to keep the students as distant as possible.
-There will be breakfast carts at Exit A, Exit D and between Exit L and K.
-If students are late, they will come though the cafeteria line for breakfast.
-Students are tardy if they are not in their classroom at 7:50am.
Dismissal
-Kindergarten and first grade will exit through entrance D facing Bocowood Drive.
-Second grade will enter through exit C in the front circle drive facing Donley Drive.
-Third will exit through exit A in the front circle drive facing Donley Drive.
-Fourth grade will exit through entrance L facing Ash Lane.
-Fifth grade will exit through entrance K or L facing Ash Lane.
-Sixth grade will exit through entrance K facing Ash Lane.
-Siblings will be picked up at the youngest student’s exit.
-All parents will be given a car tag. Please place this in the front window. If there is more than one person that picks up your child, we will be happy to provide more than one car tag.
-When you drive up a staff member will read your car tag and radio for your child.
-Students will not wait outside. They will stay in their classrooms to allow for the teacher to monitor their distance.
-Please pull all the way through the drive, to allow for multiple parents to be helped at one time. This process may take a little longer than normal dismissal.
-Students who walk home, will be released early at 2:50pm to help allow for distance as they clear campus. There will be monitors up until the crosswalks.
Devices
-Students will bring their school-issued device and charger back and forth to school each day. The teachers will still be assigning work through the CANVAS platform.
-If your student would like to bring a device from home, you will need to fill out this form: https://forms.gle/u33voPgjwGAFcu4y5
-If you would still like to be on the list for a school-issued device, please reach out to BrandonBoehme@hebisd.edu.
Lunch

-There will be one food option for lunch.
-There will be screens between students as they eat.
Recess
-Students will not be able to use playground equipment.

Visiting Lakewood
-All visitors to the school, must wear a mask.
-Parents should call the front office to make appointments.
-If you need to drop off a lunch or supplies, please ring the bell and place the item on the labeled table outside.
-If you need to come in for something that will require you to enter the building, please ring the bell and our front office staff will assist you. You will need to fill out a health screener and get a temperature check.
-Please help us keep your children safe by minimizing visits inside the school building.
-Suzuki parents will report to the Suzuki portable to fill out the health screener and get their badge.

Transitioning from virtual learning to in-person learning
Hello Lakewood Families,
We are so excited to see our Eagles! However, going back to school looks very different this year and we need your help. This challenging time requires schools and families to work together even more than before. To reduce the spread of COVID-19 there are new procedures in place. Before bringing your child to school, please check for these symptoms:
- Temperature of 100.0 Fahrenheit or above
- Shaking chills/feeling feverish
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Cough, congestion, runny nose
- Sore throat
- New loss of taste or smell
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Persistent headache
- Unusual muscle aches or fatigue
- Close contact with a person who is lab confirmed to have COVID-19 within the last 14 days
- International travel in the last 14 days
If your child has any of these symptoms, keep them at home and contact your health provider. If your child begins to have any of these symptoms at school, they will be quarantined and you will be contacted to pick them up immediately. It is VERY important that we are able to contact you and to get to the school quickly.
It is also important for families to emphasize and model healthy behaviors at home and to talk to your children about changes to expect this school year (see attachment below). Thank you for your cooperation to make this school year successful. Please contact us if there is anything you need.
