Williamsburg Elementary School
Williamsburg Elementary School’s recent Skate Night was a huge success! Thanks to everyone who came out!

These second graders at Williamsburg Elementary have some mad basketball skills!
Mrs Baileys first graders did an experiment this week while learning about dental health! They placed eggs in water and cola and left them overnight. The next day they made observations about the effects this dark sugary drink had on “teeth.” Then they brushed the tooth to see the importance of brushing their teeth! All this was recorded on their three-part observation sheet. At the end of the experiment they all got new toothbrushes and a tooth paste packet!

Stoneville Elementary School

South End Elementary School
Mrs. Woods and her third graders are working hard in small group during enrichment/intervention time! Their "reading buddies" are all lined up ready to be read to and they are "I ready for hot cocoa"!
STEM in the gym with Mrs. Tuttle!! Sometimes relieving stress can be so fun, especially with Strikerball and the best coworkers!
Our fourth grade students took a field trip to the Morehead Planetarium. Students learned about the solar system and were able to create and test their own Rovers!
Our kindergarten students are learning about hibernation! Some of the students brought stuffed bears to hibernate in the classroom. Students also made bears to hibernate in the cave in the Kindergarten building!
Meteorologist Daniel Crews from WFMY News 2 came to visit our South End Elementary School fifth graders! Thank you so much for helping them learn more about weather!

Leaksville-Spray Elementary School
On February 2nd and 3rd we celebrated our students with our Mid-Year Awards Ceremony! Students were recognized for their citizenship thus far in the school year, as well as their academic progress in the first and second quarters. Congratulations to our students who were recognized!

On Friday February 3rd, Officer Garrison graduated 100 percent of our fifth grade students from the DARE program! Congratulations to Alyssa and Cristian for having the top two selected essays from Leaksville Spray. Huntsville Elementary School
Who says cursive handwriting is lost to our students? Not in Ms. Elicia Knight’s class! This fourth grade obviously works hard!
Congratulations to Angela Corum of Huntsville Elementary School for earning her initial teacher certification! She will be recognized at the February RCS Board of Education for this noteworthy achievement!
Fundations lessons at Huntsville Elementary School!
Mr. Evans’ third grade class partnered with Mrs. Hightower’s kindergarten class to build positive student relationships across grade levels and to reinforce writing skills when discussing community helpers by making Valentine’s cards for members of the military and veterans!
Great news about our recent BookBlast! Over $12,000 in contributions were received by our students! That is phenomenal! Thank you for supporting reading by providing books for kids to have as their own! Stay tuned! We will share photos of our book delivery day near the beginning of March!
Mrs. Knight’s fourth graders visited Mrs. Spencer’s first graders to share an opinion writing they had been working on! Through their writing, the students in Mrs. Knight’s class were trying to convince her to get a class pet! How fun to get to be authors and share their work with others!
Huntsville’s Wellness Committee and SRO, Joey Robertson, have started Pickleball Night at the school on Tuesday nights as a way to get staff members up and moving during these colder months!
Douglass Elementary School
We had a wonderful day at Douglass Elementary as we recognized student academic success for the first semester! Congratulations to all of our fifth graders for graduating from D.A.R.E.!

Dillard Academy
On Thursday, February 9th, Dillard kicked off its One Book, One School with an assembly to get students excited! Thanks to our PTO, everyone in the school received a copy of "A Nest for Celeste!"
Fourth graders at Dillard Academy are studying electricity and circuits!
Since we are the Dalmatians, Dillard celebrated 101 days of school on January 30th!
On January 27th, Dillard Academy celebrated 100 days of school!
Dillard staff participated in a paint party through the Mayodan Arts Center. We have great fellowship and fun!

Central Elementary School

Bethany Elementary School
Students in Ms. Marion’s third grade class recently wrote a book about their big dreams! They held a publishing party to show off the students’ amazing work!
Bulldogs SWAG awards for this quarter! Students are nominated by teachers quarterly and recognized for academic greatness and growth!
Amazing World Read Aloud Day 2023 at Bethany Elementary School with Kristina Holtzweiss! The students made connections, reflected access to quality education, and then, they built fireflies! It was a great day for everyone!
Rockingham County Schools
Senator Phil Berger recently notified Dr. Christy Bailey, Principal of Dillard Academy, that her grant application in the amount of $15,000 for Trails K12 was awarded! In addition, another grant application for Trails K12 submitted by Trina McCoy, Principal of Monroeton Elementary School, was also recently awarded. Attached below are maps of both trail layouts.
RCEF staff has been working with the principals at each school as well as Erselle Young, Assistant Superintendent, Operations & Logistics, in developing these projects. Mrs. Young is arranging for presentation of both projects to the Board of Education during their Work Session beginning at 12:00 noon on February 27 in the Media Center at Dillard Academy.
Tony McGee, Trails K12 co-founder, has offered to present the projects to the Board of Education.
Also, a reminder that RCEF is on the team developing a $100,000 grant proposal for a proposed trail on the Rockingham County Governmental Center campus.
The project was presented to the county commissioners their regular February meeting. If the project is funded, RCEF has a $3,000 matching challenge pledge in order to develop social/emotional learning and/or other educational components on a section of that trail. The trail will be designed as an educational field trip destination for schools in addition to other uses. There is potential for connecting Wentworth Elementary to the trail when they are ready.
Rockingham County is holding its annual county-wide food drive during the months of February and March. The kickoff was on Sunday, February 5. You will find boxes in several places across the county, including local businesses and libraries, that provide residents opporutnities to donate canned goods and other food items. This food drive benefits eight different agencies around Rockingham County. Like last year, each week will have themes! Let’s do our part as a school district to help ensure that nobody in Rockingham County goes hungry this winter!
On February 7, Rockingham County Schools, in partnership with Rockingham Community College, honored our school counselors and celebrated their achievements and contributions for our students, families and staff! Superintendent Stover represented RCS at the luncheon for the School Counselors, sponsored by Rockingham Community College. Derick Satterfield of Rockingham Community College discussed early registration opportunities for our RCS seniors!
Happy School Counselors Week to all the RCS School Counselors! You all rock! You make a difference in the lives of our students ! Behind every awesome school is an awesome school counselor! Thank you for all you do!

Join us to celebrate CTE Month! Each high school will hold a "Credential Award" celebration for students who earned credentials in the Fall 2022 semester. The celebration will take place during the "Lunch and Learn" at each high school during the month of February.

Reidsville High School- February 28th
Morehead High School- March 1st
This will take place during all lunches. We are looking forward to celebrating our CTE students throughout the month of February!
Throughout the week of February 13-17, Rockingham County Schools will be honoring its dedicated, hard-working fleet of bus drivers in the annual Love the Bus campaign, sponsored by the American School Bus Council! Let’s be sure to thank our professional drivers for their loyalty and hard work transporting our students to and from school each and every day, rain or shine. We are grateful for you!
