Things I am Getting "Un-used" To....
In recent weeks, I have noticed myself getting "un-used" to different things as I adjust to my new normal. I am un-used to my alarm going off every morning, I am un-used to my usual morning routine getting ready for school and I am un-used to driving my usual route getting caught behind a local bus carrying high schoolers. I can't remember the last time I wore a pair of insensible wedge heeled shoes like I am known for. I am definitely out of practice walking in those as I spend my days in fluffy socks and slippers. I am un-used to a bell ringing every forty two minutes and I am un-used to eating my lunch in eighteen minutes. Although I am falling out of practice of seeing smiling children's faces every day and spending time with valued members of the staff at FBMS, I know that as human beings we are creatures of habit. What brings me comfort is that every summer we go through this same situation. We shut our alarms off, sleep a little later, wear more sensible shoes and may not see everyone on the daily that we typically see on a school day. So I know this too will pass. Just as summer passes and turns into Fall. And every Fall, like the students, I get excited to see those staff members that I missed all summer. And I get excited to meet new students and see the older ones and marvel at how they have grown. Although we have been thrown a curve ball of being out of school right now earlier than we are used to, take comfort in knowing that this will pass and we will fall right back into the daily routine of bells ringing, seeing each other five days a week and my insensible shoes making a come back. I miss every last one of you!!
Until we meet again... : )

Join Student Council for another virtual week of awareness.
This Thursday (3/26) and Friday (3/27) we will be celebrating World Down Syndrome Day!
Let’s start with some facts on Down Syndrome for you to share with others:
-Down Syndrome occurs when there is a full or part of an extra copy of chromosome 21.
-Those with Down Syndrome go to school, work, make choices and decisions that impact them and those around them and contribute to our world in wonderful ways, by being involved with work and activities that interest them, just like many of us do!
-With education, positive friendships, family, and community, those with Down Syndrome live full and fulfilling lives, once again, just like you and I!
Let’s join in on World Down Syndrome Day by being a part of their “Rock Your Socks” celebration! Break out your favorite socks and share with us! Here are the hashtags on Twitter!

Social Emotional Learning (SEL)
The social emotional development of children is just as important as academic development. Each year we try to incorporate more experiences within our classrooms to help develop what are known as the five social emotional competencies. Learn more about social emotional learning and the competencies here. A bingo board to practice some of these competencies is below. Clicking on it will take you directly to the pdf online at constantloveandlearning.com.
