Ford's for Me
Check out this Ford's For Me announcement!
Join us on Saturday, October 21 at 9 a.m. for Ford’s For Me: A Sensory-Friendly Museum Experience!
This free event is a sensory-friendly museum program designed to create an experience that is welcoming for families and people with sensory sensitivities who might benefit from an adjusted theatrical environment, including those with autism.
Throughout the morning, you’ll explore historic Ford’s Theatre and our museum, enjoy thematic activities and even become a Junior Ranger! Dig into the history of the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln’s presidency and his assassination at Ford’s Theatre. Get a glimpse behind the scenes and meet the actors following a sensory-friendly performance of One Destiny at 9:45 a.m.
Adaptations for this museum experience may include:
- Pre-visit social narrative and other preparatory materials describing what to expect
- Lower sound levels, especially for surprising or loud sounds in the exhibits
- Thematic activities
- Reduced wait times
- Limited crowds at Ford’s Theatre during the day and time of the experience
- Ford’s Theatre staff trained to be inviting and accommodating to patrons’ needs; and
- Allowance for the use of tablets and smartphones for communication.
This event is for families, including older children and young adults, and is recommended for ages 6+.
Call (202) 347-4833 to reserve tickets and email access@fords.org with questions.
