The Civil Rights Movement
The Watsons Go to Birmingham--1963
The time is 1963, the height of the Civil Rights movement. Ten-year-old Kenny, his older brother, Byron, and his little sister, Joey, live with their parents in Michigan. Even though they are African American, they do not feel the sting of racism in the northern state of Michigan. When Byron keeps getting into trouble, however, their parents take the family down south to visit their Grandmother--and leave Byron for the summer. During their visit, Byron, Joey, and Kenny are thrust into the midst of the Civil Rights movement where they must face evil, violence, and death.
