Camp is Calling!
While school is out for the summer, our campus will continue to bustle with activity. This year’s summer camp offerings are so compelling that it might make you wish you could be a kid again! The opportunities are endless for all ages and interests – giving campers a place to create art, sing, dance, play lacrosse, learn to cook, play Minecraft, explore a variety of cultures, be a princess, play piano, learn to drive, and so much more.
The new Marching Band Fun Time Camp will introduce and provide beginning marching band fundamentals to students. Any and all area band students are welcome and encouraged to attend! Participants will learn how to read drill, move and play, basic choreography and more. Our camp will provide more individualized feedback to those who are just getting started or are thinking about joining marching band (from grades seventh – 12th). Assistant Band Director Lindsay Ferris said, “The most exciting part of this camp is the unique opportunity it provides students to march and play with others from different schools and create a connection of community through music!”
New Head Football Coach Logan Beer is thrilled to offer a football camp for younger players. This is a great opportunity to learn football fundamentals and improve agility. Participants will also have the chance to meet our GWA varsity football coaches.
This year, we will offer swim camp for the first time! Our swimmers and their coaches look forward to working with the future GWA Swim Dawgs and those looking to improve their skills in the pool. We have a great group of swim team members ready to help, guide, and mentor students in third grade and up.
Whether your child is sports-minded or into video games, summer camps are the perfect place to learn, grow, achieve goals, build confidence, make new friends, and try something completely new. Be sure to check out our summer camps webpage (HERE) for details and registration. GWA camps run from June through August and are open to all, so bring a friend or two and help us spread the word.
Let the summer adventures begin!

Looking Forward

Myth to Movie
By Alana Thorpe
GWA Advancement Intern
Miss Pickens Latin Class is learning about Pyramus and Thisbe, a Roman Romeo and Juliet. It is a classic Roman transformation myth about a mulberry tree in which the berries are changed from white to red. Latin students completed a project in which they wrote a script for a modern telling of the myth but still included the same main points of the myth. Next they recorded their plays as short films during class time. Once the videos were uploaded and edited - the class enjoyed watching their creative works.

Get Published!
By Mac Geoffroy
Creative Writing Club Member
The Creative Writing Club is working on a literary magazine that will include works of writing, art, photography, and other literary works. Anything creative that you do, we would like to publish it in our magazine. The magazine will be a culmination of the school’s artistry. Be a part of it!
Students may submit works to bite@gwa.com by April 26 to be published in the magazine, and we are running another raffle ($15 Dunkin Donuts gift card) for anyone who submits their work.
We’d love to see some great submissions from the creative students at George Walton.
The Creative Writing Club’s raffle winner of the $10 Chick-Fil-A gift card is Trip Turner!
Trip sent in a wonderful work of writing to bite@gwa.com and won the raffle.

The Joy of Music
Ms. Sherre’s K4 class is all smiles as they learn and play in Mrs. Dyer’s music class. This week’s lesson started with students playing echo rhythms to the “Time for Music” on their rhythm sticks. Next, they discussed how the earth changes during the spring season followed by a song entitled, “Sleeping Bunnies.” When the music is “largo” (slow), the bunnies are asleep. When the tempo changes to “presto” (fast), the little spring bunnies wake up and hop quickly to match the music. Our K4 “bunnies” love playing this game!
