September 2022
A Message from Principal Stephens
Dear Pride Families,
The 2022-2023 school year is off to a successful and positive start! The staff and I were excited to see so many of you at our Meet the Teacher/Curriculum Night, Parent Teacher Conferences and Peter Piper Night. As always, we continue to value your partnership in providing the best education for your child throughout the year and creating opportunities for family fun.
For the fourth year, we are proud of our students for choosing a way to “pay it forward” with community service opportunities. With our school focus of "Be Kind", this is a real-world experience to teach students how to be supportive, caring, and helpful. Below is a list of the ways that each grade level has chosen to impact our local community:
Kindergarten: Stuffed animal drive (with the Gilbert fire department)
1st: Donations to a local animal shelter
2nd: Letters of appreciation and support to our Gilbert Police Department
3rd: Letters of appreciation and support to Veterans
4th: Gathering hygiene donations for our CUSD Bologna school community
5th: Giving Tree (with the Chandler Care Center)
6th: Feed My Starving Children
Student Council: TBD by our student leaders
As we move forward into September, we look forward to more PRIDE Spirit Days, celebrating our Be Kind Pledge, Family Game Night, Zoyo Restaurant Night, Birthday Book Club, and watching your children continue to grow as the new school year is in full swing.
Warmly,
Ms. Stephens
Your Pride Principal

Tech-Talk With Mr. Sword
We are in full swing of a new school year. Over the several years we have learned that technology has become an integral part of our daily life in education. It is now even more important that all students are digital citizens and good stewards of technology. I am excited to come along side of all the parents to help make this happen. Our district technology curriculum, Learning.com, and Google Workspace for Education will be used throughout the school year to help teach the necessary skills to all grades.
Here a few great ways you can support the learning in the technology classroom:
· We encourage students to bring their own headphones/earbuds to school. Students will use them in their classroom as well as in the lab. It is important to have your littles in kinder and 1st grade practice wrapping them up and putting them in their ears. This can be an adventure sometimes!
· Encourage your students in grades K - 2 to continue practicing with a real mouse and keyboard to become even more comfortable. You could even have them practice some of the past activities we have done in the technology lab. We are also working hard on memorizing our s# and passwords!
· Encourage your students in grades 3 - 6 to work on their typing each week. This typing, known as Adaptive Keyboarding, is individualized to meet the needs of each student. It is part of our Learning.com curriculum.
Thank you for your continued support. As always if you have any questions, comments, or concerns please email Mr. Sword at sword.keith@cusd80.com
The Library Corner, Notes From Mrs. Hufford
"I smell BOOK FAIR!" (Exact quote from a fourth grade student as he entered the book fair.) I am excited to announce that our Scholastic Book Fair set a new Patterson record. Our students LOVE reading! Thank you for supporting our school library by purchasing books from our book fairs. You probably did not know that book fairs are our number one source for funding and adding new titles for your children to check out.
Another way we are able to add books is through Birthday Book Club donations. This is an opportunity to turn one of your child’s birthday gifts into something that is shared with many children at Patterson. Invitations for July, August and September birthdays will be coming home the first week in September and are due back to us by September 13th so that we can plan for the big party on the 16th! For more information, read the Birthday Book Club link on the Patterson Library web page. https://www.cusd80.com/domain/3098

Tax Credit Donations
Tax credit donations can be made anytime and can be credited to your child's extra curricular activity fees. The tax credit reduces your tax burden to the state of Arizona, dollar for dollar. It also reduces your taxable income to the federal government.
Our school uses tax credit donations for enrichment opportunities such as fieldtrips, assemblies, art masterpiece, clubs and many other activities.
To donate, visit the tax credit donation page on our CUSD website: Click Here or contact Shelley Krason, office manager at Patterson Elementary for more information and/or to donate at the school by cash or check. 480-224-3607; krason.shelley@cusd80.com
