William The Conqueror


William I or usually known as William The Conqueror.  Born In 1027 Normandy France and died in Septemeber 9, 1087. He was a very wise and great man.

Memorable Moments

Battle Of Hastings. When he was 8 he became the duke of Normandy. William's guards died and his teacher were murdured during a period of severse anarchy. The king made William a knight in 1042. He created a survey in England to help the king set up an accurate central tax system and it comes to be known as the Doomsday Book. “I have persecuted its native inhabitants beyond all reason. Whether gentle or simple, I have cruelly oppressed them; many I unjustly inherited; Innumerable multitudes, especially in the county of York, perished through me by famine or the sword." A Quote from William The Conqueror. William was of viking orgin. His great great grandfather, Rollo pillaged Northern France, in the early 9th and 10th centuries. One of Williams nicknames was William The Bastard.
