Webtools and sites to support 21st Learners

Issue 1 May - 2013

Welcome to our first staff digital flyer. This is one way to share sites, links and webtools with each other. This flyer has been created using Smore. Smore can be used to create and publish multimedia flyers to share students work and for teachers and students to present information.

The technology team hope to release a technology flyer twice a term to support teachers in developing their knowledge and understanding of web tools and sites. These flyers will give teachers ideas of tools, resource sites that may be used in the classroom to engage your learners and further encourage the intergration of ICT within teaching and learning programmes.

We understand that everyone is busy with many extra commitments both before and after school and free time is always limited for many of us. By providing links to tutorials we hope that we can provide teachers with the opportunity to undertake their own PL at a time that is most convenient.

Bookmark Organisers for Teachers and Students

Are you tired of losing your bookmarks from I.E when we change over systems? Have you ever wanted to organise your bookmarks on live sites so that you can access them anywhere, anytime? Have you wanted to organise a group of sites for your class to visit in an easy way with only one url link? There are many sites you can use to organise and keep your bookmarks. You can share them with others, collaborate with a grade or stage or keep them private.

Great visual link organisers for kids include Symbaloo, Sqworl and 3x3links. There are many sites on the web that you can use but it all comes down to what you like and how you like to organise your bookmarks.

Bookmarking host sites on the web are similar but offer other features. We will look at these more closer in other technology flyers. Most bookmark sites give you the option to add a bookmarklet to your bookmark toolbar. This makes it quick and easy to add a link to your favourite bookmarking site.

Here are some examples but there are many other online bookmarking sites out there. My personal favourites for students to access links include Sqworl and Symbaloo but I also like using Live Binders for large bookmark storage under tab headings.

What is social Bookmarking?

Social bookmarking is a method for Internet users to organise, search, store and manage bookmarks in a cloud storage. It is social because the process also provides the opportunity to share what you have found interesting on the web with others.
