Woods Lake Elementary
Weekly Update September 28 - October 2, 2020
From the Desk of the Principal
Hello Woods Lake Family,
It is such a delight to see your children online, learning! I take time and visit each google classroom daily and enjoy listening to your child engage in their learning! I see students holding up their fingers to show the answer to a math problem, some use the chat to type their responses, while others turn on their microphone to share. Thank you for all that you do to ensure that our students are online and learning each day!
We have received additional small reading books for K-3 students and math journals for K-5 students. If you have not had a chance to stop by the school, please take a moment and drop by the office to get your child's books. We are here each week, Monday through Friday from 8:00-4:00 p.m.
Our Kalamazoo Kids In Tune (KKIT) after school program has begun. This video highlights summer and how to enroll your child, this fall.
Our A.T. program will provide synchronous A.T. learning sessions for those students identified in spring of 2020. A survey will soon go out to parents of A.T. students to arrange instructional times! In the meantime, ALL students may access the AT for All learning hub to engage in Brainiac Fun!
We will continue our NWEA fall online test for students, virtually. We are asking that you support our testing process, see the letter from me in the link below.

FAQ?
NWEA/MAP TEST FAQ
When does my child take the NWEA/MAP test?
Students take the test at varying times. Please contact your child's teacher to confirm their specific time and login information.
How can I help my child BEFORE the NWEA/MAP test?
We know that students do best when they have eaten breakfast and are well rested. In addition be sure to help your child find a quiet space, have scrap paper and pencil, and be ready to work independently. Let them know that there will be questions that they do not know the answer to and you are not able to help them. Encourage them to try their best.
How can I help my child DURING the NWEA/MAP?
If possible, make yourself available to help with technology. They may need help logging on and finding their name, in order to be able to start. DO NOT give answers or read anything to your son/daughter. Instead, encourage them to try their best and make an educated guess if they do not know.
How long will each test session take?
The test will take approximately 30-60 minutes per subject, but it is not timed. Students will be given enough time to finish the test.
