School lunches are too rich in saturated fats and cholesterol and too low in fiber, vegetables, whole grains, and fruits. School lunches have been linked to poor nutrition and childhood obesity. Even with the recent changes school lunches still lack proper nutrition. Proper nutrition has a direct effect on student performance and behavior at school and has shown to increase students ability to focus. Proper nutrition has lasting beneficial effects throughout the day for students.

What can you do?

Contact Charles County Public School Food Service Department at 301-392-5570 to let them know students need less prepackaged and processed foods and more FRESH fruits and vegetables. Lunches need to look and taste good.
