Each family will receive a communication in August containing important information regarding the beginning of the school year. This information will include your child(ren)’s classroom assignment and, if needed, the dates and times of kindergarten orientation.
The first day of school in the fall for students in grades 1-4 will be Tuesday, September 3rd and Wednesday, September 4th for kindergarten students.
Suggested classroom supply lists for the fall will be available on our school websites and in local stores.
DAYCARE BUS TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION for 2019/2020
Q. If my child attends daycare can they ride a bus?
A. Students in grades K-4 will be transported from home or daycare within their school attendance area only. For example, if you live in the Pinecrest attendance area and daycare is also in the Pinecrest attendance area, bus transportation will be provided. All students need to walk to the closest bus stop. No students will be transported from within walking areas.
Please keep in mind that the bus company is not able to accommodate special requests for busing (such as going two days to one place and two days to another. Or one week here and another week there).
END OF DAY PICK UP AND BUSING REMINDER
We want to make sure all students are safe at dismissal. Please notify the office or your child's teacher at the beginning of the school day of any changes to their end of day plans. Changes made late in the day are challenging to communicate. Consistency with your child’s dismissal plans reduces stress on all parties involved. Keeping the same plan, day after day, helps us maintain safety throughout dismissal.
We understand that there are times when it is necessary to change dismissal plans. In those instances, it is recommended to have a note a day in advance, and the day of. Teachers will not deviate from normal end of day plans without notification from a parent. Please keep in mind that these steps are the same if your child plans to go home with a friend. If your child intends to ride a bus home with their friend, the bus driver also requires a note. We thank you for your advanced planning and communication
EMPOWER ME! PRESENTATIONS
SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR
Our Buy One, Get One Free Book Fair is a reading event that brings books to your child’s school that they want to read. It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level.
Book Fair dates: May 20th – 23rd
Students will have the opportunity to purchase books during their library/computer lab class
Reading for pleasure has real and lasting benefits. It unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps kids discover who they are. Help your child develop stronger reading skills and a love for reading by:
· Setting the example. Let your kids see you read!
· Having a collection of books at home. Update the collection routinely to keep pace with changing tastes and reading skills.
Supporting our schools Scholastic Book Fair. Allow your kids to choose their own books they’ll loveYEAR BOOK
The JFK yearbooks have been ordered. Delivery should be near the end of the month. Yearbooks are scheduled to go on sale starting May 29. There is no preordering or paying in advance. Yearbooks will be for sale before school and throughout the day in the office after they arrive. The cost is $10 payable to ISD 200.
SUMMER WEATHER AND FLIP-FLOPS
As the weather continues to be conducive to being outside, our class may spend prolonged periods (20 min+) outside learning. Please have your child bring any needed sun exposure items such as hats, sunscreen, sunglasses, etc. that you see as appropriate for your child. If your child is going to bring sunscreen, please show them how to apply it themselves, and remind them not to share their sunscreen with other students. A base layer of sunscreen can also be applied at home before sending your child to school.
FLIP-FLOPS
Although flip-flops are fun and colorful, they should not be worn at school since they do not provide any stability or protection from injuries. Our nurse sees children with cuts, scratches, broken toenails, twisted ankles, and falls from running in flip-flops. Please be sure that your child wears appropriate shoes each day to school.
Kennedy School Carnival
The end of the year carnival for students is quickly approaching. We need your help to make the fun activities run smoothly and provide a fun time for all the students. Instructions for stations will be provided at the carnival. If the carnival gets canceled due to rain, the make up date is scheduled for Tuesday, June 4. Please sign up below and if you have questions call or text Brenda S. at 612-987-9016 or email her at rnstagno@gmail.com. Thanks in advance for helping with the carnival.
