Happy New Year!
We had 9 full days of school in December. As we all know the weather disrupted many plans. This leaves teachers in a big challenge of catching up with missed days and spending many hours reorganizing content and pacing of lessons. We also had many students out for several days with illnesses. The weather was a blessing to many as it allowed families to stay home and heal from influenza, colds, and other illnesses. As a teacher for many years I know the amount of work with teachers preparing absent work, correcting e-learning papers, changing lesson plans, and trying to catch students up with learning. It was not easy but I am thankful for families and teachers for your hard work and flexibility.
Goals
Much like resolutions, we focus on growth and now is a good time to revisit our building goals that help support student growth. Below are our elementary goals that we work on each and every day.
1. Establish and build a positive culture by building relationships with staff students with the PAWS committee and core values. Students enjoy receiving PAWS tickets when they demonstrate our core values by showing perseverance, accepting and respecting others, making wise choices, and being safe. There is a weekly drawing each Friday of these PAWS tickets. Students that get drawn win a prize. We have a PAWS committee that plans events and helps support our core values. If someone in the community would like to donate any prizes please drop off at the elementary or contact the office.
2. Enhance teaching and learning by identifying effective ways to integrate technology into instruction. We have Smartboards in every classroom and students have access to 1 to 1 devices to help enhance their learning. Staff have worked hard at integrating technology into their classrooms. Teachers have devoted time at Tech Tuesdays where they learn and apply many technology tools. Technology changes daily and it consumes a great amount of time for teachers to learn, plan, and use these tools. We will also be installing a PA system and audio enhancement system that will help with safety and communication in the building. Believe it or not, our bell system is from the 1940s. The old bell system is interesting to see but really does not provide any functional purpose.
3. Engage in professional development and collaboration to support quality instruction and assessment. Since we have already had snow days, we will utilize TOPS days in February and April. This will allow for valuable professional development time for teachers and paraprofessionals. Our staff development team strives to look at opportunities for growth as well as find time to look at data from many assessment sources to help drive instruction. Our mentorship groups continue to have monthly meetings that focus on professional development and purposeful learning.
Goals are essential but it is the growth of the students that makes the journey meaningful and worthwhile. We look forward to a great 2023 that is filled with growth and hope.

E-learning
E-learning is counted as a school day. Students must turn in required work or communicate in some way that they attempted to do work. Students will be marked absent if work was not turned in or there was no attempt or communication to the child's teacher.
Below is a link to the e-learning site. The link is also on the CGB website.
CGB Elementary E-learning Site
The purpose of the site is to have one location where all teachers can add resources and communication. The site can be accessed by anyone so I hope it is helpful for families with multiple students or can be shared with other family members as students may be elsewhere on e-learning days.
