Remembering Our Core Values
Dear Cougar Family,
Last Friday, I had the opportunity to push the "reset" button. I actually took the day off to attend the Christmas Open House at the Brookwood Community. The Citizens presented a wonderful pageant, including the play "The Three Trees" and a handbell choir. The entire performance was wonderful and soul-feeding, but I must say that Sheep #3 stole the show. Every time it was the sheep chorus' part, she "baa-aaed" with conviction, from the diaphragm. The soloists keep echoing through my head as well. I smiled until my cheeks hurt, and at points I held back tears. It was awesome!
When we were touring the workshops, I noticed a bulletin board with a printout stapled to it titled, "Core Values," and I snapped the picture in the inset to this post. Throughout the day, the staff made overt references to these Core Values, such as the man who led the handbell choir who talked about their value of "Continuous Improvement." The Citizens also know these values by heart and talk about their purpose and how they depend on one another--showcasing opportunity, respect, and interdependence.
As pretty much everything in life makes me do, this, too, made me think of school. At CSHS, our Core Values are best represented by the Cougar Qualities--Character, Outstanding Leadership, Understanding of Others, Goal-oriented, Academic Excellence, Responsibility, and Service. But, how often do we make overt references to these values? How many of our students can recite these and discuss how we live this every day? How many of our faculty members can do the same?
My challenge to each of you this week is not only to remember our core values--the Cougar Qualities--but also to be an ambassador for them, a living representation of them. Talk to your students about these values in a meaningful way, whether in advocate time or in an academic class. Making the qualities a natural part of how we redirect students shows that we are an united front and that we all buy-in to the common vision and value the same intangibles.
Have an incredible week representing our core values! And, as always, COUGAR PRIDE!

P.S. Walt was singing "We are the Cougars" then yelling C-S-H-S in the bathtub tonight all of his own accord. I am counting that as a parenting win.
End of Semester--Important Dates & Information
Here are a few upcoming events/dates that you need to be aware of:
Dec. 5-7 Advocate Textbook Checks
Rachel will send each of you a folder with your advocate students' book numbers. All of the instructions will be attached in the folder. This is due back to Rachel by the end of the day on Dec. 7th. However, the earlier...the better. Prizes could be awarded! :-)
Dec. 6 - YELLOW Reschedule Forms are due to APs.
These are ready for pick up in the office. Students will give us the YELLOW form and we will give them their BLUE rescheduling form to coordinate a time that works well for both of you. The BLUE form is due back to us by Friday, Dec. 8th.
Dec. 8 - Fine List Closes
The fine list will close and all fines will have needed to be entered. Rachel is updating it this week and will send it out asap for your to add your student names if they owe money for clubs, books, uniforms, etc. Please try to "hound" your students now so that they are not on the list. :-)
Dec. 12-15 Exemption Cards
We will set up in the cafeteria to pass out exemption cards during all lunches.
