Childhood
Mao Zedong was born to a 'rich peasant', as he described his father, though his family did have to work for what they had. The China he began in was falling apart, the government and the economy wrecked. The government had used its land to pay off other countries, who could 'dismember' the country at any time they pleased. Mao Zedong claimed it would take great effort and innovation by the young generation to rebuild their country.
Influence and Actions
Mao Zedong ruled for 20 years in China, in which he brought the country to its feet and inspired people outside China. He was unsinkable in the trouble (some of which he did cause). He stood his ground when he attacked the USSR's anti-Stalinist rules, when America was angered he joined the Vietnam war, when Japan attacked a northern base, military men and party rivals who disagreed greatly with Mao, and landlords who argued with is pro-lower-class ideas.
When the Communist party overtook Chiang Kai-shek, Mao Zedong's status was immediately raised. Even though the people were tired, Mao brought them willingly together again to end poverty.
In 1957, when he gave his rambling "The Correct Handling of the Contradictions Among the People" speech, his noted showed his strong visions of a utopian society and smeared perceptions. At this time, 15% of China was starving and critics scoffed at the Marxist ideas. He also mentioned the 20 million who had died in the revolution, but deduced this was false information, claiming, "how could we kill 20 million people?"
In the Great Leap, many citizens died in the famine between 1950 and 1961. In the Cultural Revolution a few years later, Mao Zedong used armies and students against enemies. Many people perished, which was again denied.

End.
Mao Zedong died in 1976. By that time, the people's supporting cheers had faded, even his colleagues having stepped away. After death, Mao's affiliates began to reverse his changes, even if they had supported them previously. Debts were repaid to the people by allowing them to start new businesses, resulting in a boom of energy and innovation.
