Blue-Bot & Social Studies Module
Middle School Computer Science
Computer Science Standards:
MS.AT: Algorithmic Thinking: Create algorithms that include methods of controlling the flow of computation using “if…then… else” type conditional statements to perform different operations depending on the values of inputs. Describe how algorithmic processes and automation increase efficiency.
Student Directions:
1. Using butcher paper, create either Mesopotamia, Imperial China, Medieval Japan, or the American Colonies. Use your computer to research what your civilization looked like, what did their homes look like, what type of government or rulers did they have? Use your notes from your social studies class to add important facts about your civilization to your poster. Color and decorate your poster.
2. Practice using Blue-Bot and program him to visit places in your civilization.
3. Write 5 different algorithms for Blue-Bot to travel to 5 different places on your poster.
4. Create algorithms that include methods of controlling the flow of computation using “if…then… else” type conditional statements to perform different operations depending on the values of inputs.
5. Run your algorithms, debug when needed
6. When you are ready, you will show the teacher your algorithms and you will run the code
7. Download the Blue-Bot App on your computer.
8. Go to your computer or iPad settings and add a blue tooth device-Blue-Bot. Once the Blue-Bot has paired with your device you will click on it.
9. Use your device and the blue-tooth connection to run your five algorithms.
